The Kenya School of Law (KSL) is the only bar school in Kenya. After their completion of an Undergraduate Degrees in Law from a recognized university, students attend the Kenya School of Law to be prepared for admission to the Kenyan Bar. The Kenya School of Law was established as a law vocational training school in 1963. 

Principal Officer Research and Project (1 Position)

REF: KSL/HR02/2022 

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail: –

  1. Assisting in the development of the research agenda;
  2. Managing and independently conducting a specific programme of research
  3. Disseminating the outcomes of the research in appropriate national and international peer-reviewed Academic publications, conferences, policy forums, etc;
  4. Taking a leading role in the further development of the research programme;
  5. Submitting research bids and proposals that will enhance the research function of School;
  6. Mentoring, supervising and assisting junior researchers;
  7. Seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding for research;
  8. Taking responsibility for, managing and conducting administrative and management tasks associated with specific programmes of research;
  9. Playing an active role in knowledge and technology transfer activities;
  10. Managing specific research grants in accordance with Financial Regulations and the conditions of the funding body;
  11. Seeking new areas of research, preparing and submitting research bids and proposals that will enhance the research function of the School; and
  12. Participating in and collaborating with other functions of the school work as required, including representing the School in various forums.

 Job Requirements

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  1. At least eight (8) years’ relevant work experience three (3) of which should be in a supervisory role;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Research Applications, Mathematics, Statistics & Economics, Law (LL. B) or its equivalent from a recognized university;
  3. Master’s Degree in Research Applications, Mathematics, Statistics & Economics, Law (LL.M) or its equivalent from a recognized university;
  4. A relevant professional qualification;
  5. Member of a recognized professional body in good standing;
  6. Attended at least a management course lasting four (4) weeks will be an added advantage;
  7. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution; and
  8. Proficiency in Computer Applications.

 

Principal Lecturer, Continuing Professional Development (1 POSITION)

REF: KSL/HR03/2022 

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail: –

  1. Developing policies, strategies and programmes for CPD;
  2. Developing courses and training strategies;
  3. Sourcing for consultancies and funding for CPD programmes;
  4. Training lawyers and other professionals in integrated legal issues to enhance effectiveness in the performance of their roles;
  5. Budgeting for planned programmes and keeping expenditure within budgeted amounts.
  6. Identifying suitable trainers and speakers for training events and negotiating fees where applicable.
  7. Designing alternative training delivery systems to meet the needs of members, e.g. online and eLearning training courses, development of training materials and best practice guides.
  8. Developing and designing courses training materials to meet client needs;
  9. Developing and carrying out sensitization on emerging legal areas to create awareness;
  10. Carrying out legal audit consultancies for public institutions to meet their statutory mandates and generate income for the School;
  11. Carrying out research on emerging legal issues;
  12. Developing proposals and responding to requests for proposals and expressions of interest for training, consultancies and research from public, private and international institutions; and
  13. Training, mentoring, coaching and supervising staff working under them.
  14. Creating an opportunity for members to engage in best practice sharing and collaboration.

Job Requirement

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  1. At least eight (8) years’ post admission relevant work experience three (3) of which should be at a senior lecturer or supervisory role;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;
  3. Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) from a recognized university;
  4. Post-graduate Diploma in Law;
  5. An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate;
  6. Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  7. Certificate in management course lasting four (4) weeks will be an added advantage;
  8. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution; and
  9. Proficiency in Computer Applications.

 

Lecturer, Advocates Training Programme (1 POSITION)

REF: KSL/HR04/2022

 The specific duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: –

  1. Assisting in Conducting research;
  2. Assisting in teaching or training in the advocates training programme;
  3. Assisting in supervising students on pupilage;
  4. Assisting in verifying student admission documents;
  5. Assisting in the preparation of teaching manuals; and
  6. Assisting in setting, moderating and marking oral examinations.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  • At least four (4) years’ post admission relevant work experience in public or private sector;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law;
  • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate;
  • Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  • Proficiency in Computer Applications; and
  • Meet requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.

 

Lecturer, Paralegal Training Programme (POSITION: 1)

Ref:  REF: KSL/HR05/2022 

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Assisting in Conducting research;
  • Assisting in teaching or training in paralegal studies;
  • Assisting in supervising students on internship/attachment;
  • Assisting in verifying student admission documents;
  • Assisting in the preparation of teaching manuals; and
  • Assisting in setting, moderating and marking examinations.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  1. At least four (4) years’ post admission relevant work experience in public or private sector;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;
  3. Postgraduate Diploma in Law;

Lecturer, Continuing Professional Development (1 POSITION)

Ref:  REF: KSL/HR06/2022 

The specific duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: –

  1. Identifying the training and development needs of focus groups or professionals to be trained.
  2. Designing the training calendar in consultation with the Assistant Director;
  3. Developing and designing training resources and materials; this would include training notes and presentations, training materials and methodologies, e-learning materials, DVDs and videos to meet client’s needs;
  4. Disseminating, advertising and promoting the training programmes;
  5. Assisting in sourcing for consultancies and funding for training programs;
  6. Coordinating with the other Task Groups to organize training sessions as part of a larger event or conference.
  7. Training of paralegals and non-lawyer professionals in integrated legal issues to enhance effectiveness in the performance of their roles;
  8. Assisting in developing and carrying out sensitization on emerging legal issues to create awareness;

Student Welfare and Counselling Officer

REF: KSL/HR0/7/202

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail: – 

  1. Assisting in responding and attending to all enquiries pertaining to student welfare and counselling to ensure smooth adaption to School life;
  2. Assisting with the organization of social activities/events for students;
  3. Assisting in confidential and professional counselling support to students who may be experiencing social or emotional anxiety;
  4. Assisting in the implementation of an effective referral and follow-up process to ensure timely interventions;
  5. Assisting in designing periodical Anger Management Workshops for students;
  6. Assisting in provision of relaxation techniques and stress reducing advice for students feeling the effects of exam anxiety to avert emotional breakdown;
  7. Assisting in the day to day management of Student Welfare Records;
  8. Assisting in receiving and forwarding to relevant office enquiries relating to Student Welfare and Counselling; and
  9. Assisting in developing and implementing student welfare programs i.e. disability mainstreaming, baby daycare centers, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and AIDS.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Education from a recognized institution;
  2. Meet requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution; and

Internal Auditor- Information Systems (POSITION: 1)

REF: KSL/HR08/2022

The specific duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: –

  1. Assisting in preparing audit plans for systems and ICT audit reviews;
  2. Assisting in performing detailed evaluation of internal control and audit reviews of
  3. computer information systems and infrastructure;
  4. Participate in risk-based ICT audits;
  5. Assisting in providing recommendations to improve internal control;
  6. Assisting in providing policy/system recommendations at development stage;
  7. Assisting in follow up implementation of audit recommendations; and
  8. Assisting in monitoring the implementation and operation of defined controls;
  9. Assisting in reviewing data and network security.

Job Requirements.

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  1. Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or IT related field from recognized institutions;
  2. Meet requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution; and
  3. Proficiency in Computer Applications.

Marketing Officer (POSITION: 1) 

REF: KSL/HR09/2022

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail: –

  1. Assisting in marketing the Schools services;
  2. Assisting in brand management for the School;
  3. Assisting in developing of new products and determining the appropriate pricing and marketing strategies that can optimize benefits to the School;
  4. Assisting in ensuring viable business proposals are developed and submitted to development partners for financing;
  5. Assisting in carrying out market survey;
  6. Explore potential commercial business opportunities available;
  7. Assisting in coordinating the development of pricing strategy with an eye towards maximising School’s profits while ensuring that the customers are satisfied;
  8. Assisting in monitoring and coordinate sales in the different stations to provide feedback on necessary remedial measures; and
  9. Assisting in analyzing sales reports and advising on necessary marketing changes.

Records Management Assistant (1 POSITION)

REF: KSL/HR10/2022  

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail:

  1. Ensuring that letters are appropriately filed and marked to action officers;
  2. Controlling and opening of files and updating file index;
  3. Ensuring security of information/files in the registry;
  4. Updating and maintaining up-to-date file movement records;
  5. Ascertaining the general cleanliness of the registry;
  6. Certifying that pending correspondence and bring-ups are checked and appropriate action taken;
  7. Renewing file covers;
  8. Ensuring proper handling of documents, pending correspondence and bring-ups; and
  9. Receiving and dispatching letters and maintaining related registers.

  1. Diploma in Records Management, Information Management, Information Science, or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;

Academic Services Assistant (POSITION: 1)

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail:  

  1. Assisting in preparation of examination and registration venues;
  2. Assisting in issuing students’ ID and examination cards;
  3. Assisting in data entry to update examination data bank;
  4. Assisting in issuing of transcripts and certificates;
  5. Assisting in recording queries relating to School examinations and admission and forward;
  6. Assisting in receiving and profiling of admission applications;
  7. Assisting in issuing of admission letters;
  8. Assisting in opening of student files; and
  9. Assisting in folioing and filing of student documents.

  1. Diploma in Education, Information Science, Records Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
