Job PurposeLead in coordinating IMLU’s engagement with regional and international treaty bodies and national criminal justice reform, to deliver on the institutional goals and results in accordance with our strategic plan.
Main Responsibilities Of The Jobs
Managerial / Supervisory/ Operational Responsibilities or roles:
1. Coordination of all treaty body activities at the community, national, regional and international levels
2. Lead policy and research work for legislative, policy and institutional and implementation campaigns to advance criminal justice reforms
3. Identify, prioritise, and refine policy targets and language and work with the communications team for dissemination
4. Track legislation and policy and evolving political dynamics and identify the gaps and opportunities
5. Create and oversee strategic communications, research, and legislative products to support campaign the criminal justice reforms work
6. Work closely with other like-minded organizations (including PRWG-K) and government agencies to prioritize high-impact work
7. Identifying and leading public interest litigation that informs policy and jurisprudence;
8. Lead in developing reports for submission to treaty bodies.
9. Identifying spaces within treaty body mechanisms for IMLU’s participation and influencing, including representing IMLU at relevant treaty body formal sessions and CSOs platforms.
10. Strengthening internal and external stakeholder understanding of treaty body mechanisms.
11. Developing and implementation of program work plans, ensuring alignment to institutional results areas.
12. Fundraising and donor partnership management.
13. Overall in charge of all treaty body, criminal justice reforms and accountability program internal and external reporting.
14. Monitoring and evaluation of programme interventions.
15. Quality control of all treaty bodies, criminal justice reform and accountability program
16. Developing structured and productive partnerships with relevant government institutions to pursue regional and international agenda.
17. Leading in developing and implementation of strategies for nurturing critical mass(movement building) for criminal justice reform at community level;
18. Advising the Executive Director and the Senior Management Team on pertinent monitoring mechanisms
19. Any other duty assigned from time to time.

Minimum level of academic qualification required to perform effectively in the role:
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with a bias in international human rights law
Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences with training on international human rights law;

Minimum months or years of experience required to have to be appointed to the position :
Minimum: At least 3 years’ relevant experience in mid-level management preferably in a reputable human rights NGO working in criminal justice reform or treaty body advocacy.

• The Legal Department of IFC (CLED), under the Vice President and General Counsel, is responsible for providing legal and policy advice to the IFC Board, its Management and client departments on operational, advisory and corporate matters. Specifically, CLED supports client departments in (i) the delivery of IFC’s annual program of financing private sector projects in emerging markets; (project portfolio management (including jeopardy projects and projects in litigation); the delivery and design of structured finance products, sub-sovereign lending, equity and quasi-equity, public-private partnerships, and carbon finance transactions; advising on corporate policy and operational matters such as operating policies and procedures and Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Funding of Terrorism; and knowledge management and training. To support IFC’s growing activities in Africa, CLED is recruiting a qualified Legal Assistant, to be based in either of these locations Johannesburg, South Africa or Nairobi, Kenya or Dakar, Senegal.Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external matters, e.g., powers of attorney, proxies, signature designations, counsel retainer faxes and Article III notices (notifying governments of an IFC investment).
