Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the provision of technical support to relevant departments contributing to students’ learning experience by assisting with the preparation of materials and apparatus for practical work in the laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and dismantle apparatus and equipment for demonstration and practical lessons, as requested and detailed by teaching staff.
  • Run trials of experiments prior to classes and then demonstrate techniques for experiments to the trainees to ensure the practical session runs smoothly
  • Perform demonstrations and provide technical support to the trainees during the practicals
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure that all the required equipment and chemicals are available for use when required
  • Requisition laboratory consumables to ensure they are replenished in a timely manner to ensure laboratory operations run smoothly
  • Maintain safety storage of laboratory chemicals and equipment to prevent incidences of accidents in the laboratory
  • Prepare a maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment for approval by the section head to ensure that all laboratory equipment is in good working condition
  • Ensure safe disposal of laboratory waste as per the Occupational Safety and Health standards
  • Observe and ensure health and safety procedures are practiced and enforced and all accidents are reported to the section head.
  • Advise the section head on the budgeting requirement for the laboratory to ensure that all the laboratory requirement are factored in the budget to promote smooth trainings
  • Maintain all requisite records on the use of various laboratory equipment and chemicals for accountability and future reference
  • Segregate non-functional equipment and machine to ensure safety in the laboratory and ensure they are disposed per the safety disposal guideline
  • Report any breakdown of equipment to the section head for purposes of decision making on replacements.
  • Supervise cleaning of the laboratory and equipment therein to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments that will save on time and improve reliability

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Applied Biology, Analytical Chemistry
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a similar position preferably in a learning institution
  • ICT skills
  • Ability to collect quantitative data, analysis and interpretation

School Patron and School Matron

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the smooth running of the Boarding Houses in the School, supervision and guidance of learners ensuring a clean environment and promotion of safety and welfare of boarding students

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work in collaboration with Assistant Matron/patrons and House Master to ensure cleanliness of boarding house at all times
  • Take part in pastoral care program for boarding students
  • Provide a conducive environment for the welfare of boarders
  • Help resolve any conflicts that may arise in collaboration with House Master
  • Maintain high standards of student behavior
  • Take note of discipline issues related to students in the boarding house
  • Be in the forefront of cleanliness in the boarding house, that they are kept tidy and well cared for with good arrangement of clothing, well-made beds
  • Maintain record of student punctuality to class, attendance, absence
  • Report any damage of furniture, beds, lockers etc. for repair
  • Be available to receive communication from parents and ensure timely response is made
  • Support the Boarding Master/HOD Boarding in managing the boarding house
  • Provide new parents with appropriate information about boarding house
  • Keep the Deputy Head, Counselor, Nurse in loop on specific issues of concern relating to individual students

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ certificate in Housekeeping or Institutional Management from a recognized Institution
  • Minimum of 3 years as a boarding patron or a boarding matron in a Learning Institution

Cleaner

Job Summary

This position is responsible for maintenance of general cleanliness in the schools to ensure that the environment is conducive for work and studies

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general cleaning of the school’s compound, facilities and infrastructure to provide a friendly surrounding for learners and staff
  • Clean washrooms/restrooms to ensure they meet the sanitization and hygiene standards as per the school’s sanitation policies.
  • Remove cobwebs dust and dirt from ceilings& walls, spray pesticides and fumigants to prevent insects and rodents infestation
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment or repairs on items to enhance the functionality and increased life span of assets
  • Assist in arranging meeting venues to ensure neat, flexible and functional seating arrangements
  • Dispose refuse and waste in line with set out procedures to enhance compliance with the health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • KCSE Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 year experience, a Learning Institution will be an added advantage

Head Chef

Job Summary

This position is responsible the standard and quality of the food production and the hygiene within the department is maintained at the highest level at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Make daily requisitions for different sections to ensure availability of all the raw materials required for preparation of food to ensure continuous production. Oversee ordering and control of stock levels.
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Supervise kitchen staff to ensure the preparation of all food ensuring that all food is prepared as per the food preparation requirements
  • Wash and cut raw foods using appropriate tools to produce quality food following standard practices and procedures.
  • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Ensure timely preparation of food by coordinating the chef and cooks to meet the set time targets and quality. Ensure sufficient quantities are available for the various areas
  • Ensure the correct food portions are served to avoid wastage that reduce the overall costs. Maintain stock levels of all kitchen supplies
  • Ensure proper cleaning of equipment daily do avoid food contamination and improve the quality of food.
  • Regularly review the food menu and assembling foods, supplies and equipment for daily food preparation.
  • Make appropriate detection and report any malfunction in the kitchen.
  • Be available for functions as they arise to ensure that the food is prepared and served as required

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing general cleanliness of kitchen utensils and the area of duty including cleaning of surfaces, table- tops and kitchen floors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure general cleanliness of kitchen utensils and in areas allocated such as dining hall before and after use by students/staff
  • Responsible for chopping, cutting and washing of raw food using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Neatly arrange kitchen equipment and utensils to enhance tidiness and ease of location of utensils.
  • Ensure proper collection and disposal of waste to enhance proper sanitation.
  • To assist serve food to students as directed by the Cook or Chef

Qualifications

  • KCPE/KCSE Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 year experience working in a similar position
