Deputy Director, Corporate Communications

Scope of Work /Duties /Responsibilities
• Overseeing maintenance and improving the Corporate Communication policy of the Authority taking into account the internal and external
• changes in the maritime industry;
• Advising and recommending to the Authority’s possible outcomes and response scenarios based on strategic initiatives made in the year;
• Coordinating all corporate communications related activities including publishing of brochures, handbooks, calendars, annual reports, departmental reports;
• Overseeing the development and delivering creative communication strategies and plans;
• Updating the Authority’s website and digital platforms and facilitate interdepartmental communications and managing external communications;
• Building and maintenance of consistent branding, corporate identity across relevant public relations channels while keeping the Authority up to date on industry trends;
• Overseeing the development of suitable communication strategies to mitigate prevailing crisis;
• Coordinating the development of content to provide clear and adequate information and material that will support marketing and communications activities;
• Overseeing the reviewing and approval key presentations and collaterals needed for communications and outreach activities;

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution. Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Public Communication, Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
• Membership by the relevant professional Body.
• Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
• Fulfilled the requirement of Chapter Six (6) of Constitution.

Experience
• A minimum period of ten (10) years in relevant work experience and at least three (3) years in a Supervisory position in the Public Service or Private Sector;

Overview
The Role:

Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, the job holder will be responsible for directing the activities of a technical transmission division which includes but not limited to directing of projects, installations of equipment, monitoring of equipment performance and signal quality controls as well as monitoring of staff performance and welfare in the division.
Specific Terms:
Three (3) years renewable contract subject to a good performance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Planning, coordinating of technical transmission services activities and operations within the division
• Overseeing the implementation of technical transmission services policies, procedures, standards and work plans in the division
• Ensuring adequate contingency plans are in place to avert technical services failures
• Overseeing and evaluating the implementation of technical transmission projects
• Overseeing the deployment and maintenance of all types of broadcasting equipment in the division
• Approving technical specifications to be used in the procurement of required transmission facilities
• Submitting divisional monthly reports and quarterly reports based on the approved strategic plans
• Providing technical support to section heads within the division
• Assisting in handling administrative work, staff performance appraisals, disciplinary issues, financial controls and maintenance of technical stores in the division
• Supervising, mentoring and training of staff in the division.

Minimum Requirements:
Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
• Master’s degree will be an added advantage
Professional Requirements
• Must be a registered member of the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya / Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) or any other recognized Engineering Body at the level of Professional Engineer / Graduate Engineer or Graduate Technician Engineer.
• A high level of computer proficiency
Minimum Experience and Competencies
• Minimum of seven (7) years of hands-on experience working in a broadcasting/media environment with at least four (4) years in a managerial role
• Must be conversant with maintenance of broadcast engineering systems/software
• Demonstrable ability to install, implement and maintain broadcast engineering systems/plants
• Ability to display business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation and leadership role.
• Familiarity with regulations dealing with broadcast services
• Good technical, analytical and communication skills
• High level of creativity and innovation.

About the role
What you need to know:

Liability Lines profit centre is responsible for underwriting WIBA; WIBA plus; Employers Liability, Public Liability, Commercial General Liability Product Liability/Product recall, Contaminated Product Insurance and Environmental Impairment Liability Insurance.
The role is expected to ensure profitable growth of Liability Lines business whilst maintaining sound underwriting standards within prescribed underwriting authority.
Where the tasks in the job are well performed, it is expected that the business line will realize profitability by achieving budgeted production, acceptable loss and expense levels.

Responsibilities
Underwriting

• Respond to underwriting queries on Key account issues.
• Prepare policy wordings for new products and product enhancements
• Receive and execute new and renewal instructions.
• Issue quotations and invoices as may be requested by the producer.
• Engage producers on renewal retention of Key accounts.
• Oversee producer training in collaboration with the Distribution Team.
• Make decisions on policy wordings and endorsements, (subject to authority)
• Make decisions for corrective action on accounts with poor claim ratios
• Ensure adherence with all underwriting guidelines and referrals
Business Development and Retention
• Seek new business opportunities and assist in the pursuant of new partnerships.
• Assist to drive Digital and Direct marketing sales strategies
• Quote on new business and renew existing accounts
• Participate in cross-sell and up-sell initiatives with other profit centres
Portfolio Management and Reporting
• Prepare various management reports as may be requested from time to time
• Manage allocated portfolio accounts in profitable and sustainable growth, constantly assessing overall performance of the portfolio and make recommendations for adjustments to the Profit Centre Manager as needed.
• Assist in portfolio analysis
• Provide input for budgets and forecasting
Business Operations
• Adhere to internal SLA’s to ensure operational efficiency and achievement of agreed customer service standards
• Respond to enquiries from brokers, clients, branch office, outsourcing partners and support staff
Audit and Compliance
• Ensure adherence to audit requirements
• Ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements

What we’re looking for:
Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification/degree in a Business discipline
• Insurance Technical qualifications CII/ACII.
• Proficiency in IT applications widely used for business
Experience & Knowledge: -
• Over 5 years’ experience in Underwriting (preferably Liability Lines)
• Over 5 years' working experience in a General Insurance Company
• Business Development working experience is an advantage

• Excellent technical underwriting knowledge
• In depth knowledge of the current business and marketing trends
• Confidence to prepare and present tailored presentations to a varied set of audience
• Strong client management skills and ability to keep promises
