Job objective To facilitate quality learning through teaching, administration and academic advisory work and ensure an outstanding student learning experience.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Teach and facilitate learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other learning situations as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
• Participate in the development, administration and marking of exams, assignments and continuous assessments tests.
• Participates in the development and implementation of academic policies, guiding principles, objectives and functions in accordance with the vision of the University
• Assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, Achievement and attendance.
• Provide advice, guidance and feedback to students to support their professional progress and referring student to support services as appropriate.
• Participate in supervision and assisting of students in their course work.
• Participate in writing of research proposals and applying of research grants in the relevant areas of the course.
• Contribute and participate in the development of departmental seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
• Provide pastoral care to students through academic advising and counselling.
• Contribute to departmental, faculty and/or University wide working groups or committee as, when requested to do so;
• Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff development and training activities to update and enhance skills;
• Maintain proper records of students’ examination, assignments and continuous assessments tests and ensure they are keyed in examination records management system in time;
• Attend departmental, Faculty and University –wide meetings with other staff members;
• Represent the University positively to prospective students and stakeholders
Qualifications and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB)
• At least 3 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level
• Professional membership with Law society of Kenya is an added advantage
• Master’s in law or related area is an added advantage

Job Purpose The position is responsible for provision of cogent legal analysis and interpretation of information on legal matters to enable the Department of Legal Services operate efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks
Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills).
• Conduct research to find important information related to the cases and legal issues being undertaken by the Commission;
• Provide accurate and relevant interpretation of legal documents, contracts and/or agreements;
• Identify risks to the Commission as well as the Department of Legal Services and ensure compliance to the Commission’s and the Department’s legal risk framework.
• Contribute to the development of the Department of Legal Services’ Performance Contract and Work Plan;
• Attend legal proceedings and take notes of relevant information for the cases;
• Identify implications for cases from legal precedents or other legal information;
• Participate in various tender evaluation committees to ensure that the Commission’s interests are legally protected;
• Manage the Department of Legal Services’ litigation master diary and, where necessary, invite litigants for and fix hearing dates in all legal proceedings the Commission is party to;
• Peruse court files as directed by the Head of Legal Services from time to time and prepare reports;
• Compile and arrange documents for Commission and Legal and Policy Framework Committee meetings;
• under the guidance of the Head of Legal Services, draft and handle correspondences both in writing and orally with external Advocates, Third Party Advocates and Insurers;
• Keep a record of the legal files and other documents;
• File legal documents in Courts of Law;
• Serve Court pleadings in all legal proceedings the Commission is party to;
• Prepare mention and hearing notices and affidavits of service in all proceedings the Commission is party to;
• Prepare bring ups in all proceedings the Commission is party to;
• Make proposals on the process service function’s work plan and budgets.
• Ensure that all the legal files and documents are updated and kept in a systematic order so that they are readily available for use;
• Provide on-going liaison at all Court Registries and Government departments; and
• Undertake routine errands at public registries, courts, and other relevant offices.
Academic qualifications:
• A Degree in Law from a recognised institution.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies
• Must be a registered process server.
• Must possess a current and valid process server certificate.
Previous relevant work experience required.
• Have at least three (3) years proven work experience in a busy law firm or department.

• Knowledge of various legal processes, policies and procedures;

• Drawing and interpreting contracts and agreements with service providers and other stakeholders;
• Execute legal based audits as per the annual work plan and give reports;
• Managing court cases including attending hearings and providing recommendations or remedial alternatives for resolution of disputes involving or affecting the Fund;
• Advising on legal, regulatory and governance matters;
• Ensuring safe custody of collaterals and chattels and other organization properties;
• Coordinating issuance of legal undertakings;
• Advising on negotiations and taking part in corporate deals;
• Interpretation of relevant rules and laws;
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the regulatory framework, managing litigations and advising on procedures and legal requirements;
• Offer secretarial services to the Board including custody of Board minutes and ensuring timely preparation and circulation of Board papers/minutes;
• Facilitating Board induction & training, updating the Board charter, Code of Conduct and
• Ethics, preparation of Board calendar, Board evaluation, and governance audit;
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment

• Post Graduate Diploma in Law;
• Master’s Degree in Law is an added advantage;
• Served in a comparable position with at least 7 years relevant work experience in a reputable organization;
• Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies;
• Must be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
• Possession of CPS (K) and membership to the ICPSK is an added advantage;
• Be in possession of a Current Law Practicing Certificate.
