Job Requirements

Education:
• Completed Secondary Level Education with 7 Years (Seven years) of relevant work experience in the fields of media relations, journalism, communications, editing/publishing

Knowledge and Experience:
• Secondary School certificate holders should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in media relations, journalism, communications, editing/publishing, Graphics Design or related fields.
• Previous experience with a multilateral or international organisation is useful but not mandatory.
• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge, and experience in handling web-based management systems.
• Experience in internal communications including communication of key corporate messages.
• Experience in managing the production of printed material, including brochures, and leaflets, briefing third-party designers/printers to ensure corporate brand and style is met.
• Good facilitation and coordination skills demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner;
• High sense of responsibility. Tact, discretion, initiative, and good judgment in dealing with staff members, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Experience with popular social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube LinkedIn, etc
• Knowledge in photography and/or videography skills, and experience in Adobe Creative Suite software is an asset;
• Familiarity with Mailchimp and WordPress CMS is an asset.

Languages:
• Fluency in English both written and spoken is required. Knowledge of any other official UN language is desirable

As the Social Media Moderator, you will offer support to our Social Media team in timely engagement with our online audience.

Responsibilities
The following are duties you will be responsible for
• Timely response to comments and messages on our social platforms ∙
• Offer support to whole social media team in handling Jiji social media platforms
• Suggesting creative ways to capture attention of our online audience through incorporating trends to enhance our brand awareness
• Respond to comments and messages in creative ways that will build meaningful connections and encourage our online audience to take action
• Any other duties assigned to you from time to time

Requirements
We believe that you will succeed better if you possess the following:

• 1-year experience as a Social Media Moderator
• Excellent command of writing and communication skills in English and Swahili
• Knowledge in the use of any platform for social media moderation e.g. Napoleon Cat, Mobile Monkey, Meltwater etc. will be an added advantage
• Demonstrate knowledge in various social media platforms and social analytics tools

JOB DETAILS:
Primary Purpose:
• The position is responsible for increasing and maintaining quality standards in the proper use of Contractor Management System, Interpreters in both Pre-screening and USCIS interviews, in pre-departure orientations, and translating written materials into the key languages of our refugee populations.

Essential Duties:
• Updates and maintains the RSC Africa Interpreter and Child-minder database.
• Develops resources for use by Interpreters/ Child-minders and RSC staff to further improve the efficient and effective use of contract Interpreters/ Child-minders.
• Conducts training, testing, observations (Prescreening interviews and Cultural Orientation classes), and supervision of the Interpreters, both in the field and in Nairobi on a regular basis.
• Participates in Pre-screening, USCIS, and Cultural Orientation Circuit Ride (CR) briefing and debriefing to provide expertise on Interpreters.
• Provides in-house training to RSC staff on how to effectively working with Interpreters/Child-minders. Submits monthly reports on the status of activities.
• With guidance from the Interpreter Supervisor, provide training to Contract Interpreters/Child-minders in sub-Sahara Africa.
• Assist the Interpreter Supervisor, plan, execute and support Interpreter/Child-minder Training and Monitoring circuit rides.
• Assist the Interpreter Supervisor monitor, respond and manage the Interpreter mailbox. This includes ensuring professional communication with USRAP partners on Contract Interpreter.
• Provide support to Program Integrity Specialist on Contract Interpreter investigation and requested support as assigned by the Interpreter Supervisor.
• Interprets into/from English in/from at least one of the following languages: Amharic, Congolese Swahili, French, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Oromo, or Somali.
• Translate materials as required/ requested.
• Coordinate with Date Integrity to develop reports related to Interpreters Management.
• Work closely with Program Integrity Specialist to ensure RSC Program Integrity Guidelines on Interpreters (both required and recommended) are implemented, adhered to, and reported appropriately.
• Maintains a current knowledge of the United States Refugee Admissions Program.
• Travels periodically to field locations throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
• Performs other duties that may be assigned to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of the operation.

Qualifications:
Experience:
• Written and verbal knowledge of at least one of the main RSC Africa processing languages required. (Amharic, Congolese Swahili, French, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Oromo, or Somali.)
• 1.5 years’ experience as an Interpreter or as a Coordinator of Interpreters preferred.
• Three (3) year’s work experience required
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver quality training programs.
• Demonstrated computer skills for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet.

Education & Certifications:
• High School diploma is required for this role

• The External Relations team plays a leading role in positioning Evidence Action to donors, partners, governments, and media; developing and executing strategic approaches to strengthen our resource mobilization and brand; and coordinating internally to create and take advantage of opportunities for funding and dissemination of our impact. Our team works across multiple time zones, so a candidate with a willingness to find ways to take advantage of different time zones and iterate faster on content is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead development of Africa region communications strategy, translating organizational communications priorities to approaches adapted for local contexts.
• Coordinate with staff across country and sub-regional offices to source and produce stories of impact and content from our programs.
• With support from country teams, identify Africa region relationship-building and placement opportunities among local press.
• Provide internal and external communications support to Africa-based programmatic staff and leadership, in collaboration with global and regional communications team members.
• Create content and visualizations to convey key data and technical information via web infographics, social media, blogs, and newsletters.
• Source and manage consultants and vendors to execute graphic design, photography, crisis communications, video production, and other areas as needed.
• Develop and train staff on organizational communications policies and guidance in the region.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:

• 5 - 7 years of work experience in communications or public relations at a media organization and/or evidence-driven organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or marketing; or in public health, international relations, or economics with experience and interest in communications or journalism.
• Proven experience building relationships with media, writing press releases, securing media stories, and placing opinion pieces.
• Strong networks within African media outlets and networks with international media.
• Curiosity, attentiveness to detail, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with setting goals for communications efforts and measuring/communicating the performance of communications efforts against KPIs.
• Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work remotely in a productive manner, across multiple time zones, and within a matrixed environment.
• Passion for our mission, vision, and values.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English. Fluency in French is a plus.
• Legal ability to work in Kenya without sponsorship is required.
