JOB DETAILS:

The Grants Associate provides specialized services in public and/or private awards. They will support financial activities for the Africa business unit. They should be an expert in their area of specialization and conduct work in accordance with TNC policies and procedures, donor requirements and best practices in financial management. Specifically, this position provides a wide range of technical, administrative, and financial support to assigned staff for incoming public funds and outgoing sub-awards. This position will report to the Lead Grants Specialist Africa and will be based in TNC’s local offices in any of the countries in which TNC has local presence.

Specific activities
• To assist with the preparation and set-up of budgets for prospective award opportunities by compiling raw data inputs from programs and finance teams.
• Set up of Budgets and assignment of costs in the public awards module.
• Conducting research on recorded expenses and recording accounting adjustments.
• Assist in the production of financial reports and invoices.
• Drafting outgoing subaward agreements using standard templates.
• Will review internal and partner financial reports.
• Working closely with program managers to ensure technical deliverables are tied to financial reports.
• Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
• Assist with quality control review to ensure accuracy and full support in documentation for audit purposes.
• Support Lead Grants Specialist in keeping an accurate and up-to-date Grants/Proposals Filing system to ensure documents are easily accessible for the day-to-day work of the Grants team and for internal and external audit purposes.
• Ensure all approvals and documentations are presented for payments requests.
• Liaising with finance and programs to assist the Lead Grants Specialist to follow up on issues raised.

What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Experience using automated accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Three years’ experience with reporting and managing public awards both USG federal and state, Multilateral funding, among others
• NGO experience is a plus
• Three years previous experience in the areas of grants development, donor proposal development, budget develop or financial report development

Job Highlight:
In this role, you will lead the analysis of national, regional, and global policies, strategies, and programmes to understand the challenges and opportunities for unlocking investment in the clean energy space. You will analyze investment funds from Development Finance Institutions as well as impact investors. You will lead in identifying mechanisms for unlocking commercial funds, including from local financial institutions. You will investigate different models used to finance investment in productive use sectors, particularly in the agriculture and livelihood sectors, as well as the health sector. The goal is to understand successful models that could be replicated to unlock both public and private funding at scale. You will also collaborate with WRI Africa’s energy team and partner organizations to develop scalable models aimed at attracting investment in the productive use sector, as well as increase end-user finance.
You will closely work with different teams across WRI sisterhood, including WRI China, WRI India, the Global Energy Program team, as well as members of the institute's finance center. You will report to the Energy Access Lead for WRI Africa.

What you will do:
Finance (70%):
• You will lead in research and analysis on energy finance topics, particularly aimed at unlocking public and private investment in the clean energy and access space
• You will undertake an in-depth review of financial data and investment portfolios from Local Financial Institutions (LFIs), Development Financing Institutions (DFIs), as well as global and regional (Sub-Saharan Africa) energy-focused funds
• You will support the collection and aggregation of data on opportunities for investment in Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) sector, including Productive Use opportunities, and social services (in health)
• You will lead in the development of innovative business and finance models for the successful deployment of DRE interventions, particularly in the productive use space
• You will work with and build capacity of LFI (CBs) to establish investment portfolios for renewable energy to accelerate investments in energy access and net-zero ambitions
• You will organize convening and engagements with targeted key stakeholders in the energy access and finance space including utilities, Commercial & Industrial (C&I) actors, Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), as well as energy entrepreneurs/investors to conduct analysis on optimal pathway for delivery of clean energy
• Integrate inputs from stakeholders to contribute to our research products and engagement strategies
• You will facilitate consultations with key stakeholders
• You will serve as WRI Africa’s finance analytics expert
• Provide ad hoc and ongoing support and recommendations to evolving collaborations between energy access and transition pillars, finance center, as well as with other International Offices (IOs), particularly with WRI China and India teams.

Communications and Fundraising (30%):
• You will work with the Africa Lead – Energy Access, WRI Africa staff and global communications staff to contribute to the sustenance of a compelling and consistent message from our work as a key strategy for impact
• Develop and co-develop blogs, training materials and other knowledge products (e.g., reports, issue briefs, working papers, and technical notes) on sustainable finance
• You will contribute to analysis and review metrics, results, and outcomes from project activities
• You will contribute to development of funding proposals to expand the growing WRI Africa energy programme.

What you will need:
• Education: You will have a completed Master's degree, either in energy economics and finance, public policy, or a related field
• Experience: You have 5+ years of relevant full-time professional experience, including research and analytics experience in the energy field, and with a focus on African country contexts
• Experience working in energy markets, with a track record of working with energy sector stakeholders in Africa
• Experience in conducting and publishing research on energy finance in Africa
• Demonstrated expertise in structuring and prioritizing a complex, multiple-faceted research work program
• Experience in engaging with government, academia and CSOs involved in energy research in Africa
• Knowledge of solar energy technologies/systems and financing instruments, energy policy, and energy finance challenges and opportunities
• Experience working with international organizations
• Languages: You have verbal and written proficiency in English

Requirements
• Advanced degree in Finance/Accounting and/or

Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing technical support to staff within the areas of finance and budget, to ensure compliance with WFP financial policies, rules, and regulations. Participate in the correct application of financial policies and procedures to support the implementation of proper accounting systems and internal controls.

Minimum Qualifications

• Processing International Financial Reporting Standards adjustments to fixed assets bi-annually
• Ensuring all fixed assets acquisitions are properly authorized by the responsible office.
• Preparing annual Capex budget in consultation with Managing Director and the responsible office.
• Ensuring that cash flow forecasts are prepared monthly and weekly CICO
• Ensuring the Group’s “cash toolkit” is being competently managed and suggested improvements given to Financial Controller
• Analyzing insurance needs to cover assets & events leading to financial loss
• Advising insurers advised of changes that may affect risk
• Ensuring all bank and petty cash accounts are reconciled monthly to ensure accuracy
• Ensuring all payroll inter-company charges are processed in ERP
• Working in conjunction with business analysts during budget and LEs
• Submitting budget data into Prisma

Tax Management and Reporting
• Preparing monthly reporting for Tax submissions.
• Ensuring data submission of monthly reporting for Pernod Ricard Eastern Africa to relevant market tax portals and sites.
• Overseeing reconciliation of PRK accounts with KRA records and accounts.
• Ensuring that all tax obligations are met; Tax (Excise, VAT, CIT), Payroll, payments to group companies, and foreign exchange contract commitments
• Ensuring that all intercompany payment obligations are met including interest payments, capital repayments, and BO invoices.
• Assisting in preparing all tax returns for PRK in collaboration with the Financial Controller, auditors, and tax advisors
• Ensuring that half-yearly and annual tax calculations prepared are submitted timeously
• Ensuring that statutory returns are submitted timeously and reconciled periodically.

Internal Control Responsibilities.
• Adhering to all the internal control procedures of Pernod Ricard Eastern Africa
• Ensuring Internal controls are updated annually in compliance with Group requirements
• Ensuring the integrity of the master database for suppliers and customers
• Assisting the Financial Controller in risk mapping every two years
• Giving recommendations to Financial Controller on the improvement of processes and controls.

Stakeholders’ Relations
• Developing a collaborative relationship with internal stakeholders through cultivating an excellent transparent working relationship across PRG departments and with SSA senior finance team
• Collaborating with external stakeholders by ensuring ongoing communication with auditors, external advisors, company secretaries, banks, and other service providers as required.
• Liaising with government departments on statutory compliance issues as required

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or another relevant field
• Four (4) years experience in Finance. Audit experience is an added advantage.
• Experience in the FMCG industry in Commercial Finance or Business Planning Analysis is preferred
• CPA or ACCA Qualification required
• Experience in working with multiple functions within an organization (e.g. Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel experience
• Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
