Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide legal support to the Board and Secretariat to enhance the Boards effectiveness
• Handle legal communication that is addressed to the Board and give preliminary recommendations
• Participate in the negotiations and preparations of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’s)
• Prepare case briefs and summarize depositions, interrogatories and testimony
• Conduct relevant legal investigations and prepare statistical/documentary research report
• Locate and develop case relevant information
• Prepare and file basic legal documents and correspondence
• Review cases to determine whether they have legal merit
• Prepare preliminary legal papers and briefs, researching legal issues, and drafting legal documents
• Conduct research on legal issues to support litigation efforts
• Interpreting laws, regulations, and policies to advise clients about how these apply to their situation.
• Participate in preparation of Board’s reports

Requirements for Appointment
• Diploma in Legal Studies from an institution recognized in Kenya
• Bachelor’s Degree in Law will be an added advantage
• Membership with a relevant recognized professional body
• Possess at least 2 years of relevant working experience
• Certificate in Computer Application Skills

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the National Environmental Law Unit, or her/his designated representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Assist in performing UNEP’s roles and functions as Secretariat under Montevideo Programme V – a global programme on supporting countries to advance environmental rule of law – including the servicing of meetings, preparation of background documents, and preparing meeting reports;
• Keep the UNEP-Law and Environment Assistance Platform up to date with environmental law news and knowledge products, and perform relevant data analysis;
• Assist in administering technical support and capacity building activities for Member States on environmental law under Montevideo Programme V;
• Assist in the preparation of legal briefs/advice and in the review of legal documents, instruments, or other material on environmental law and related areas under Montevideo Programme V;
• Support the review from a legal angle of any documentation prepared under the GEF DDT project in India and provide comments;
• Provide project management support by assisting in the planning, carrying out, and closing of project activities under the GEF DDT project in India, and in the periodic monitoring of the status of project activities and expenditures;
• Assist in the organization and support of events (meetings, workshops and training, roundtables, and expert meetings), that are organized face-to-face or electronically by the Unit or in which the Unit is involved to raise awareness about the Unit’s and the Division’s activities, through e.g., liaising with partner entities/organizations and with participants, compiling materials, taking notes and preparing reports;
• Perform other relevant tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Results/Expected Outputs As an active UNEP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNEP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including through:
• Ensuring that UNEP-LEAP is kept up to date and supported with high-quality data analysis;

Requirements
Required experience

• 3 years of experience in environmental law or environmental governance. Prior experience at the international level is an ad-vantage.
• Experience in knowledge management is also an advantage; Proven ability to carry out research and familiarity with electronic research tools and databases Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management and office technology equipment

Task description
• Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Indian Ocean West Region), the UN Volunteer expert will assist in the implementation of activities that are carried out under the Global Maritime Crime Programme’s Indian Ocean West. In particular, duties will serve the re-gional maritime law enforcement pillar. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• As IOW Team MLE Technical Coordinator oversee and monitor implementation of Port Security training blocks in Mozambique, Seychelles, Namibia, Kenya, Angola and Tanza-nia
• Ensure coordination for Port Security training blocks
• Establishment and maintenance of coordination with other international and national enti-ties seeking to provide training support to MLE agencies
• As IOW Team MLE Technical Training Coordinator coordinate with the leadership of rele-vant MLE agencies, oversee and monitor qualifying all host nation MLE personnel on a re-gionally standardized list of essential skills in Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros and Madagascar
• Continue to identify training needs of the beneficiary country's MLE agencies/units and re-view operational, logistics and maintenance practices and current condition of afloat assets
• Develop a set of recommendations on parts for GMCP to acquire if funding becomes avail-able and on possible improvements to Mauritius MLE maintenance practices, with particular focus on the capacity to calculate operations and maintenance costs and include them in na-tional budgetary processes
• Complete a virtual meeting with all other country mentors discuss and synchronize a plan for a way forward for future activities
• Submit photos and written descriptions of capacity building activities for inclusion in pro-gramme visibility materials
• Support coordination the IOW Team MLE by providing technical advice and coordination on work performed by IOW

• Provide well researched and sound analysis of issues and developments affecting pro-gramme/project development, administration and implementation, etc.;
• Provide thorough, well-reasoned written contributions. Effectively, and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally;
• Provide substantive and administrative support to activities implemented under the pro-gramme in the region, especially as these relate to maritime crime, detention and transfer, in-cluding procurement, human resources processes, and travel in line with UN financial rules and regulations;

Purpose Of The Job:
• To process insurance claims related court summons received from third parties, appoint advocates, negotiate with third parties and timely recovery from negligent third parties. Prepare legal statistics and review contracts before commitment by the company.

Main Duties And Responsibilities:
• Negotiate settlement of court awards with third party advocates.
• Offer all round sound legal advice with key focus on cost savings and customer satisfaction.
• Reduce overall legal costs by containing of matters in-house through out of court negotiations
• Minimize legal risks - Identify potential legal risks & take steps to protect the company from legal liabilities
• Manage panel Advocates and other service providers by holding them accountable to Service Level Agreements
• Eliminate proclamations and/or attachments against our insured
• Assisting in legal research and preparing legal opinions to both external and internal client
• Review and draft claims contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
• Renegotiate advocates fees in line with the Advocates remuneration order
• Analyze claims based on evidence adduced and contents of investigations report and recommend the ones suitable for out of court negotiations and settlements

Legal Matters Documentation
• To receive and process summons filed against insured by the company
• To receive and requisition for advocate’s fee notes
• Process judgments entered against the insured and document all proceedings
• Any other duty assigned from time to time

Knowledge And Experience:
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Laws LLB
• Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

Experience:
• Four (4) years relevant working experience preferably in a similar role.
