The Position
• The job holder will be part of our African Programs and Advisory team, which includes professionals from a range of private sector backgrounds, including engineering, project development, entrepreneurship, banking and investment, micro-finance, and management consulting. You will help implement different energy access programs, work with our donors and sub-contractors, advise MSMEs, and support E4I team members in program implementation.
Essential Responsibilities
Advisory
• Support team providing renewable energy SMEs and mini-grid project developers (“Advisory Clients”) with technical, financial and business advice.
• Support Advisory Clients on strategy consulting, investment readiness, partnership facilitation, project development support, financial modelling and capital raising.
• Help to develop Energy 4 Impact’s internal processes and knowledge of technologies, business models, regulatory issues, financing process, etc.
• Work closely with in-house programme teams to implement donor mandates and carry out programme management activities, including reporting both internally and externally.
• Work closely with in-house M&E team to ensure expected results for Advisory activities are measured and evaluated.
• Report to projects senior management team on Advisory activities.
Business Development
• Support team on Business Development origination and proposals as required i.e. contributing to concept note development, supporting in bid preparation, gathering data and producing presentations for various donors. CAPITAL ACCESS
• Work closely with the CAF team from time to time as required.
• Work with the regional senior leadership team to develop and support the regional strategy.

Researcher
Overview
• Obtain recent and relevant data from open-source media to support Control Risks' analysis from time to time. The data will be presented in a prescribed format (including word and excel) and submitted for review daily.
• Prepare the Daily Security and Media report, in strict conformity with Control Risks' style guide, reporting template & tool bar, and adhering to set reporting timelines.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports where need be, strictly adhering to set reporting timelines.
• Prepare ad hoc reports in line with clients' requirements as requested from time to time.
• Support the management of the day to operations of the SOC including all elements of routine operational delivery and emergency response.
• Train the SOC team on data capture and reporting methodologies' best practises, based on learnings and trainings received over time.
• Pro-actively seek opportunities to develop the SOC and other business-related support tasks.
• Work with the wider Control Risks team, where need be, in researching and presenting relevant data to support service delivery to clients.
• Support the delivery of operational guidance to clients and internally on the changing security dynamics across the region - this may take the form of face to face or remote (Teams etc) verbal briefing or formal (PowerPoint) presentations.
• Support business development initiatives by spotting and reporting potential opportunities from relevant/credible sites, attending meetings, participating in relevant calls/discussions and preparing draft proposals adhering to templates.
• Perform any other duty, in line with Control Risks' objectives, and as assigned by the line manager.
• Liaise and work effectively with other Control Risks offices, departments and practices.
Requirements
• A degree in security or business field or its equivalent.
• At least 3 experience in a risk consultancy in East Africa or equivalent experience.
• Keen interest in security and regional affairs.ESG requirements:
• Has a good understanding of ESG risks and opportunities that resonate in Africa (e.g. Just Transition, water scarcity, biodiversity loss)
• Will use their local knowledge to contribute to thought pieces and collateral, making sure that ESG in Africa is represented in the overall group/EMEA messaging on ESG
• Can support our BD activities in Africa and work on some projects where research or on-the-ground tasks are required
• Preferably has some formal qualifications around ESG or at least has undertaken relevant courses post-completing their formal education
• Understanding of physical risks of climate change, how these impact Africa and what mitigation measures might actually work in Africa.
• Biodiversity and Natural Capital Understanding
• Understanding of broader ESG and what African companies need from ESG.

Experience:
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible professional development experience in the related areas, notably in Africa.
• Experience in designing and delivering disaster risk reduction and recovery related policy and programme support that fosters linkages with resilience, climate change and other themes.
• Knowledge of disaster risk reduction methodologies and concepts and ability to apply to strategic and/or practical situations.
• Team supervision experience.
• Ability to establish networks and partnerships with knowledge and experience of UNDP and UN system policies and programming.
• Strong and relevant experience working in developing country settings and disaster-prone regions is required, including experience in disaster/crisis contexts.
• Experience working in the Africa region.
