The Legal Counsel is responsible for handling full spectrum of the Bank’s Retail Banking business from lending, securities, contracting and retail projects, litigation and recoveries. The role’s principal goal will be to offer practical legal support to the retail banking business units through balanced business-oriented legal advice that will guarantee that all our retail banking transactions and decisions comply with established laws and regulations in line with the legal risk policy and related contractual, litigation, recovery and securities procedures & processes.
The specific retail banking business units are set out below:
• Business Banking
• Consumer Banking
• Workplace Banking
• Retail Banking – Offer letters, credit requests and approvals, security perfection and review
• Asset Finance (Retail)
• BRM, SME, Retail Recoveries, Consumer Banking and Car Duka Recoveries

Ideal Job Specifications
Academic:
• Bachelor’s Degree Law (LLB)
• Master of Laws (LLM) (Desired but not mandatory)
Professional:
• Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya (minimum 3-5 years post admission
Desired work experience:
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a legal department of a busy organization, financial institution or law firm, with sound exposure to:
• Contract and customer documentation drafting
• Development of sound legal advisory and sound general advise
• Credit or lending
• Retail recoveries
• Perfection of securities

CSA is a leading national Organization committed to the promotion of the health and development of young people through research, technical assistance, advocacy, and capacity building to expand choices and improve access to safe, affordable, and sustainable health services. CSA works in partnership with governments, relevant institutions, professionals, and communities to support young
people’s right to exercise choices, and access to health services, and participate fully in activities that promote their health and general well-being.
The main purpose of the job is to provide overall leadership on the CSA policy and advocacy engagements at the county, national, regional, and international levels in line with key organizational strategic documents. The role includes documentation and sharing of knowledge, capacity building, and developing joint reports with the county, national and international networks, and processes as well as monitoring progress and contributing to the same.
Responsibilities of the job
• Lead CSA’s rights-based sexual and reproductive health advocacy agenda
• Support the review of regional and international health commitments to ensure inclusivity and intersectionality with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
• Carry out policy analysis to identify opportunities to advance advocacy and campaigns towards SRHR and vibrant civic space, as well as alert on potential risks
• Support engagement in key national, regional, and international advocacy processes (ESA CSE, UN processes, HRC, ICPD, CSW, SDGs) including reaching out to national networks and coalitions to develop joint reports and positions
• Engage county and national partners, platforms, and other networks to support and strengthen recognition of SRHR diversity and inclusivity
• Engage young people in all their diversities, communities, partners, and other key stakeholders in joint events.
• Organize and host training, workshops, and other policy-related events.
• Contribute to campaigns, ensuring they are built around solid policy analysis
• Liaise and maintain regular contact with government officials, parliamentarians, and policymakers on key policy issues.
• Support technical working groups/committees, and conduct stakeholder consultations to support engagement as well as policy development and implementation
• Work with all CSA projects to identify advocacy opportunities and agenda
• Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation purposes to contribute to the achievement of key advocacy outcomes.
• Coordinate with the staff team to develop impactful and timely policy documents (briefings, position papers, reports and recommendations) for policy engagement processes
• Anticipate possible advocacy developments and outcomes and prepare contingency plans and strategy adjustments
• Maintain vigilance and reports on national contexts on major SRHR issues
• Support the identification and development of fundraising opportunities represent CSA in county, national and international forums
Desired Qualifications
• A Degree in social sciences.
• Minimum of three years’ experience of working in policy advocacy
• Good working awareness of CSO space and health policy and legislative environment in Kenya and the region
• Good understanding of the program cycle
• Excellent research, interpretation, and critical analysis skills to evaluate context, data, and legislation.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong and broad stakeholder relationships
• Excellent writing, analytical, and verbal skills
• Ability to work as part of a diverse and multicultural team.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
• Adaptability, high level of autonomy, good organizational skills

JOB DETAILS:RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assisting in the co-ordination of legal due diligence, documentation and closing of transactions;
• Negotiating, drafting and reviewing legal documents and contracts;
• Advising on all matters regarding the law; especially on changes in law in civil & commercial litigation;
• Consulting with Clients and opposing Counsel and to develop and maintain good client relationship skills, gaining clients’ confidence and that of other professionals;
• Attending court, Arbitrations, proceedings before Tribunals, Mediations, etc.;
• File Management and Court Diary Management;
• To be able to show a track record of achieving their fee targets and time targets and that the targets are appropriate for their position and level of qualification;
• To be strategic and commercially aware and be fully familiar with the firm’s current strategy. Be able to have knowledgeable discussion about the market the firm operates in, the threats and opportunities the department faces and the future plans for the Department and their role in those plans;
• Attract additional business from new and existing clients;
• Attend internal training and external training as and when required, as well as offer legal trainings to clients as and when required;
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS
• A Second Class Degree in Law (LL. B) from a recognized University;
• Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court with not less than one (1) year post admission experience in a busy Law Firm;
• Must have attained a B- and above in O levels/ high school;
• At least 1-year experience in a busy law firm or company;
• Knowledge, relevant practice and understanding in Litigation, Conveyancing, Arbitration and Commercial, and the respective Laws and regulations;
• Creative, commercial legal thinking and appreciation of the business aspects in their application of the law;
• Ability to pro-actively and creatively manage potential legal issues;
• A team player willing to learn, adapt and work with minimum supervision;
• Excellent organisation, administration, communication, influencing and interpersonal skills;
• High levels of energy and enthusiasm and ability to work long hours and under pressure; and
• High level of analytical and problem-solving skills.
