(a) Duties and Responsibilities
The key objective of this position is to facilitate communication between hearing and hearing impaired individuals through sign language. As an interpreter, you must understand the subject matter of discourse so you can accurately translate what is being said into sign language and sign language into spoken language.
Main Responsibilities
a) Providing a full range of interpreting/transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing (HoH) members and employees;
b) helping hearing impaired individuals understand the proceedings of the plenaries and committees of the Assembly;
c) Interpreting any conversation, meeting, and training session or other requested event, including providing oral interpreting to Members and Staff who do not use sign language;
d) Responsible for interpreting in a variety of communication modes during assembly-wide work related events such as programs, conferences, and appraisals, and counseling sessions, etc. for specific training needs and benefits;
e) serve as a liaison between County Assembly and the deaf community;
f) Utilize skill in a variety of signed languages, Contact Sign, and Conceptually Accurate Signed English, CASE) to facilitate communication;
g) Enlighten Member and staff on Deaf Culture and interpreter services;
h) Identify process improvement opportunities to improve on services to Assembly customers; and
i) Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time
