Role Responsibility
Reporting to the News Editor, you will be responsible for producing content for all output with News Content correspondents, and sometimes working with WS correspondents and reporters in Africa. You will act as a point of editorial reference for journalists and correspondents, providing editorial leadership as required. You will exercise your editorial judgement, creativity and flair to make original and compelling multimedia content. You will also offer ideas for daily output and future diary events, suggesting new angles on existing stories and putting forward stories not yet covered.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable background in a senior journalistic role, in field production, with first class knowledge of news for UK, global and African audiences. A broadcast-level of English, written and spoken, is essential. You will have notable experience of working across multi-platforms such as TV, digital and radio. You will have a wide range of contacts in your network. In addition, you must have evidence of producing high-impact stories for digital, TV and radio. You will have a solid understanding of news and current affairs across Sub Saharan Africa, its history, politics, social and cultural issues. A thorough understanding of the latest developments in storytelling is key.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
• Responsible for originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of BBC output.
• Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
• May be required to undertake on-air reporting, may be required to film and edit material for broadcast where appropriate.
• May include the production and presentation of live or recorded programmes.
• May be required to present live or recorded content on radio, TV or online.
• As required, to allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output.
• Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.

SCOPE OF WORK
The objective of this assignment is to develop a communication strategy aimed to increase awareness and knowledge of KCDF’s work and its mission; to prepare a detailed strategy, and a detailed communications plan with a detailed budget for implementation of the communication strategy.
Under the guidance of KCDF, the specific tasks of this assignment include:
• Conduct a desk review of available data such as the communications strategy (2017) and the existing communications plan.
• Conduct a desk review of KCDF’s Strategic Plan 2019-2023 mid-term review and how it will align with the communications strategy.
• Conduct a baseline assessment to inform the development of the communication strategy this will include a review of documents and publications KCDF has developed in the last twenty-five years and ensure there is no duplication of materials being produced.
• Develop a communications strategy for KCDF to enhance the awareness, understanding, and knowledge of the public, key stakeholders, private sector, civil society, etc. at the global, regional, and national levels.
• Specify appropriate communication channels, dissemination methods, and media such as video, print, online media, traditional media, and social media, among others, to effectively communicate key messages to specific stakeholders.
• Design a standard publication layout for KCDF for use in its future publications.
• Develop a brand style guide for all communications on KCDF’s work to ensure consistent formats for publications and communication products.
• Develop a costed communications implementation plan for the communication strategy including the annual activities related to communication.
