The position sits within the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) team in the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO). The ESARO office is a large regional office that covers 21 Country Offices and supports fundraising of significant resources in the region. The 12 months temporary assignment reports to Regional Advisor, Public & Private Partnerships (PPP) and works in close collaboration with members of the PPP teams and other sections in the Regional Office. The incumbent will benefit from a full exposure to public sector partnerships in the region and will benefit from significant learning experience.

Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Emergency Response Section (ERS), in the Response Support Branch (RSB), Coordination Division, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Nairobi, Kenya. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.
Within OCHA, Emergency Response Section (ERS) is the custodian of several international emergency response mechanisms, including but not limited to: the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC), which is designed to help the United Nations and governments of disaster-affected countries during the first phase of a sudden-onset emergency; and INSARAG, which is a global network of more than 90 countries and organizations under the United Nations umbrella that deals with urban search and rescue (USAR) related issues.
The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will serve as the ERS' Regional Focal Point for Southern Eastern Africa region, reporting to the Chief of the Emergency Response Section (ERS), who is located in Geneva, through the Head of ROSEA, who is located in Nairobi.
