Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellow

Primary Responsibilities:
The Fellow for this role will be assigned litigation and Advocacy work, by:
• Conducting legal and policy research and analysis on international and regional human rights law, as well as comparative national-level law;
• Assisting in the development and drafting of pleadings, fact sheets, articles, and other advocacy documents positioning reproductive rights as fundamental human rights;
• Supporting the Center's capacity building initiatives, designed to increase the use of the law to promote reproductive rights by local partners across the globe;
• Researching and drafting presentations and other materials to strengthen the capacity of partners and other stakeholders to advance reproductive rights;
• Supporting the identification, documentation and application of best practices in litigation initiatives;
• Researching and monitoring developments and trends in Litigation and Advocacy initiatives and methodologies and supporting development of resources;
• Supporting the Africa program in maintaining partnerships with NGOs, and other stakeholders;
• Working closely with the Legal Adviser to digest and disseminate reproductive rights updates for advocates and partners in the region;
• Assisting with the planning, logistics and implementation of online and offline litigation and advocacy capacity building events;
• Supporting the operational activities of the litigation team , as needed, including maintaining filing systems;
• Institutional responsibilities such as monthly programmatic update, monitoring and evaluation, tracking lobbying and press mentions;
• Using editing skills to assist with blue booking and fact-checking of reports, petitions, shadow letters, and other documents, as needed; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Candidates with 2-3 years' work experience, with a degree in law and knowledge of international and regional human rights and women's rights and of reproductive rights or women's health are eligible to apply.
• The candidate should be capable of complex legal analytical work and possess excellent writing, editing, research and oral advocacy skills.
• Fluency in French is preferred.

Household Economic Strengthening Officer

The Opportunity
Save the Children International Kenya- Samburu Office, has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Household Economic Strengthening Officer - Turkana. The post holder will provide support to all livelihoods or household economic strengthening work at field level. S/he will be involved in the research and learning, monitoring and evaluation of the livelihoods aspects of the NAWIRI project. With the guidance of the HES Advisor, S/he will be involved in the coordination and networking with NAWIRI consortium partners led by Mercy Corps, County departments responsible for agriculture, livestock, nutrition, trade and other NGOs. S/he will support on all household economic strengthening elements of the project, providing capacity building for the county staff. S/he will promote best practice in the livelihoods programmes and contribute to the overall success of the NAWIRI programme. S/he will be involved in the implementation of livelihoods or household economic strengthening activities in Turkana and /Samburu County.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor degree in Agriculture, Social Sciences, Community Development or other discipline relevant to rural livelihoods.
• At least 3 years relevant project work experience in an international NGO or similar organization.
• Good technical knowledge of policy and practice in the field of livelihoods, crop and livestock production as well as other cross cutting issues.
• Understanding and experience in implementing nutrition security, food security and livelihoods programmes.
• Good understanding of system approach to ending persistent acute malnutrition.
• Clear understanding of and proactive approach to nutrition resilience, hunger and food security issues in Kenya, particularly in the context of Turkana and Samburu counties.
• Understanding and experience in child rights programming.
• Strong commitment to capacity building of county staff and partners with willingness to adopt participatory and consultative approaches.
• Experience with livelihoods programming in arid and semi-arid land (ASAL) settings preferred.
• Good communication, presentation, training and report writing skills.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels.
• Willing to work in isolated rural areas with basic living conditions, and work in difficult field conditions.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
• Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind-sets.
• Fluency in English and Swahili, both verbal and written, required.
• Knowledge of local language is an added advantage.

• Liaise with workshop venue on meeting space, times, budgets, etc.
• Prepare participant invitations
• Organize participant travel where needed with advance funds

• Moderate the workshop
• Write the workshop report

Required qualifications of the consultant / survey team leader
• At least a master’s degree in a field related to agricultural economics and development, and at least 3 years working experience in this field
• Demonstrated experience organizing and moderating conferences and workshops
• Strong writing skills in English (attach writing sample)
• Fluent speaking and listening skills in Kiswahili
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred qualifications
• Working experience in the area of innovations for agricultural risk management, as a researcher, program manager, or in communications.
