Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Technical Officer for Risk Communication and Communication Engagement shall:
• Support implementation of the communications and advocacy strategy for preparedness and response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and the vaccine roll-out programme
• Support the development/production of communication and advocacy materials and activities for COVID-19 vaccine, including health promotion events, awareness-raising campaigns, briefing materials, factsheets, and branding
• Support the design and timely dissemination of information materials on COVID-19 vaccine to internal and external audiences
• Contribute to the creation and use of content to provide information to the public through the digital platforms, including the website and social media platforms
• Support the development of culturally appropriate and acceptable messages for risk communication and advocacy on COVID-19 vaccine roll-out
• Write press releases, note to editors, as well as any briefings to be disseminated to the public through the media
• Support the preparation of different materials for the media, such as press releases, opeds, as well as regular media briefings, interviews and interactions on COVID-19 vaccine roll-out programme
• Support capacity building in risk communication for African Union Member States on COVID-19 and other disease emergencies
• Represent Africa CDC in a professional manner, which creates a positive image and enhances the credibility of the organisation
• Perform any other COVID-19 vaccination related activities as requested by the Senior Communication Officer
Qualifications and Skills required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising or related fields and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work Managerial experience is an added advantage.
Or
• Master’s Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising or related fields and a minimum of 2 years relevant work Managerial experience would be an added advantage
Functional skills
• Proven work experience in supporting or managing strategic and health communications at the national and international levels, preferably in the development sector
• Proficiency in the use of relevant software for design, analysis and word processing
• Ability to use modern digital communication technologies to reach different groups of audiences
• Knowledge and experience of content creation for social media and other digital platforms.
• Understanding and ability to apply modern marketing, public relations and media concepts and principles to the communication of public health emergencies
• Experience in developing audio-visual content for advertising, promotional and publication purposes
• Proven experience in developing key messages on public health emergencies and disease outbreaks
• Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies for national government or public sector, regional or international government or non-governmental organisations, multinational organisations, advertising agencies or leading media companies will be a distinct advantage
• Demonstrated ability with regard to computer skills, including excellent word- processing capabilities, proficiency with e-mail and internet applications, experience in using office software such as MS Power Point, Word and Excel.

What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Digital, Marketing and Communications, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
• In charge of coordinating all PR activities for the properties of Fairmont Kenya (Fairmont The Norfolk, Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, Fairmont Mara Safari Club), in order to achieve the communication strategy set up by the marketing direction
• Manage all aspects of relationship building and maintenance with external (public) stakeholders or influencers (in the way that they have the ability to influence the brand image and awareness) : clients, guests, media, social media influencers.
• The PR coordinator is the first ambassador of the brand in Kenya and for Kenya
• Define the company's public relations goals by developing and implementing strategies to maintain the company's public image.
• Define PR KPIs such as positive impact, content, coverage, repetition, impact on brand value, etc.
• Define PR plan
• Manage PR production, coordination and scheduling
• prepare press releases, monitoring media coverage, organizing press conferences, as well as coordinating interview requests, social media relations or partnerships
• participate to trade & media shows to create bonds and opportunities together with sales team
• Cultivate strong relationships with media outlets and journalists to ensure efficient communication and maximum coverage.
• Schedule press conferences and public events, and coordinate interview requests.
• Work with the marketing team to plan and implement campaigns aimed at increasing brand awareness.

Your experience and skills include:
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, or a relevant field.
• At least 1 year of experience working in the public relations industry.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with personnel and members of the media.
• Superb written skills and knowledge of press release style guides.

Communications and Public Outreach Associate, Source-to-Sea Pollution UnitTask description
• Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Source to Sea Pollution Unit and in close collaboration with Task Managers, the Branch Communications team, and Communication Division the UNV will undertake the following tasks:
• Provide support to the Nutrients and Marine Litter teams in tracking progress of the portfolio through provision of periodic relevant updates, project support activities, and compiling periodic reports
• Maintain and update relevant partners and stakeholders database and support partnership building for successful implementation of UNEA 5/2 Sustainable Nitrogen Management and 5/14 End Plastic Pollution resolutions and other relevant resolutions
• Prepare newsletters, briefing notes, projects fact sheets, stories, periodic news articles, support the preparation of meeting and workshop minutes, presentations, advocacy and other information materials
• Provide support to carry out social media campaigns, online community engagement and participation for optimum outreach and impact related to sustainable nutrients management, marine litter and plastic pollution, Beat Nitrogen pollution, Clean Sea campaigns, etc.
• Support in organizing of Global Partnership for Nutrients Management (GPNM) or Global Partnership on Marine Litter Steering Committee meetings, Nitrogen Working Group meetings, other related webinars, workshops and conferences
• Designing and creating content for the GPNM or GPML website and other relevant digital Platforms.
• Contribute to the preparation of various written portfolio outputs such as draft background papers, fact sheets, speeches, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
• Prepare reports for internal and external (donor) requests, document and disseminate best practices, stories and lessons learnt from the various interventions and projects across the regions, and review web stories
• In liaison with the UNEP Communication Division, develop and disseminate various communication products including visuals, flyers and other outreach materials related to the Beat Nitrogen Pollution and/or CleanSeas campaign
• Communicate with and provide inputs to Branch and Division monthly newsletters, knowledge management platform, etc.
• Perform other related duties as assigned Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD)
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers
Requirements
Required experience
• 3 years of experience in a communication, public outreach, advocacy, environmental campaign, etc. preferably at an international organization, governmental institution, or non-governmental organization.
