We seek to hire a highly qualified Farm Officer with experience in the field of the animal and vegetable industry to maximize production growth and oversee output from the farm. Commit to performing duties in a manner that furthers the mission and overall strategic direction of the Farm.Responsibilities
1. Manage all farm machinery
2. Manage labor planning and allocations.
3. Ensure that the right plant population is attained at planting
4. Ensure weed-free fields and general farm hygiene through timely weed control and general sanitation
5. Manage irrigation and scheduling of irrigation based on different crops requirements and stages of production.
6. Reduction of water wastage from leaks and over-irrigation
7. Undertake agronomy work to ensure that pest control is well managed and all pests and diseases are kept below the threshold at all times
8. Direct the Farm's crop nutrition in terms of implementation of fertilizer plans, composting / manure application and foliar feeding
9. Plan all the farm/section operations for the month, week, and day in consultation with the CEO.
10. Confirm all picking predictions during harvesting.
11. Ensure that vegetables are picked on time, handled carefully and is of high quality
Qualifications
1. Degree/Diploma in Agricultural Sciences/ Horticulture
2. At least 2 years of extensive practical experience in a similar role.
3. Demonstrated and verifiable experience in animal and vegetable production lifecycle
4. A proven track record of meeting various targets set.
5. Ability to work independently while constantly informing the head office in terms of reports
6. Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in all MS Office applications

Responsibilities• Strategic Leadership: provide strategic direction to the Sector in terms of content and leadership to optimise development results and resource mobilization.
• Business Development: identify opportunities to mobilise financial resources for the Sector in Kenya and Burundi, develop proposals and secure funding for agriculture projects. This includes both traditional grant funding, as well as emerging opportunities in private sector, climate finance and impact investment financing.
• Programme Management: manage a proportion of projects directly, oversee the delivery of effective development results, planning and monitoring, financial management, and donor reporting of all projects in the Sector.
• Advisory Services: lead complex assignments, set benchmarks for results, and monitor the quality of advisory services of the Agriculture portfolio.
• People Management: lead, manage, and coach the team of SNV project managers, advisors, and local and international consultants.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: ensure uniform understanding and practices in planning, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of agriculture projects in line with SNV’s internal frameworks and donor/customer requirements.
• Representation & Promotion: develop and maintain relationships with national and international stakeholders (donors, government of Kenya and Burundi, NGOs, and private sector) to improve SNV’s market position and actively participate in external and internal networks.
• Facilitate learning, documentation and evidence-based knowledge development and sharing in collaboration with SNV’s global team and partners.
• Contribute to SNV Kenya’s management as a member of the Country Management Team.
Qualifications
• Education: Master’s Degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agribusiness, agroforestry, business administration, international trade or another relevant field.
Experience and Skills:
• Minimum 10 years of professional work experience, including international experience as consultant/advisor for private and/or development organisation on business development, preferably in Africa.
• Proven track record in resource mobilisation and business development.
• Strong emphasis with advocacy and proven experience in working with civil society organisations.
• Experienced networker and relationship manager, especially with donors and partners.
• Experience in proposal writing and preparation of project documents.
• Proven track record working with medium and large private sector companies, preferably in agri-business, in the development of Inclusive Business/Shared Value Models.
• Experience in analysing/implementing value chain approaches in the Agriculture Sector.
• Experience in leading, managing and coaching a team of project managers or advisers.

FARM OFFICER (Kshs40,000 – Kshs45,000)Our client, an SME engaged in the manufacturing of healthy, tasty and high-quality organic food products based in Nairobi is looking for a FARM OFFICER.
Job Purpose:
The Farm Officer is responsible for the execution of the day to day running of the Farm operations at the Poultry Unit under the guidance of the Farm Manager. He/she is to provide Administration support for the Farm activities while ensuring that policies, processes and systems in place are enforced and consistently implemented for personnel and Farm Safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Timely facilitate approved poultry schedules periodically according to the production requirements – eggs collection, eggs cleaning, storage, feeding, vaccination
• Ensure that disinfection and vaccination activities are carried out as per the administration program in place
• Facilitate and coordinate good handling of produce – collection, transfer to the stores, sorting, cleaning and storage; to avoid damages and losses
• Up-date and maintain Farm records including bin cards; while ensuring accurate and correct information is captured
• Oversee feeds issuance is done as per the allocated ratios per house and that records are maintained for traceability and reference purposes
• Ensure isolation of birds on disease outbreak is maintained as guided by the Veterinary Consultant
• Prepare respective brooders in readiness of flock transfers and arrivals
• Ensure designated storage areas are maintained in good condition to ensure no cases of contamination.
• Facilitate and coordinate transfer of manure periodically to the Crop Unit Farms on need basis
• Routinely check and inspect all foot baths and ensure that they are frequently refreshed and well utilized to control cross contamination
• Participate in monthly stock count and routine spot checks in liaison with the Loss Control Team
• Oversee efficient execution and completion of allocated and assigned work to ensure that set targets are met
• Exercise access control to, from and within the Farm to ensure that bios-security is fully enforced
• Conduct routine checks on the Farm to ensure that operations are running as scheduled; and to affirm that everything at the farm is in good order
• Ensure that staff are in full PPEs while at the Farm; conduct routine hygiene checks to ensure that set standards are duly adhered to as per the provided checklist
• Communicate and enforce policies, procedures, systems and processes in place and ensure that the same are duly up-held and adhered to
• Report any incidents or occurrences to Management; and ensure that procedures established are followed – recording and documenting reported cases
• Generate and submit output reports on a timely basis – daily, weekly, monthly
• Any other duties not necessarily mentioned which are in line with the position of a Farm Officer.

Accountabilitie• Plan, organize and direct the pest prevention, pest control and crop protection strategy for the three East Africa Flowers sites
• Study and monitor crop protection trends as well as customer requirements and legislations governing crop potection products in order to inform the decision on the crop protection programs
• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for the sites
• Lead the crop protection team and foster a culture of one team within the crop protection departments in the three sites
• Evaluate and test efficacy of various crop protection products and recommend the same for use at the farms
• Develop and review the standard operating procedures for the delivery and application of pesticide products to field locations in a safe and secure manner
• Equip the Crop protection team with knowledge and skills to ensure spray coverage is achieved in all specified areas, applying knowledge of weather conditions, spray volumes, droplet sizes, application speed and apparatus in use
• Act as the link between the Flowers crop protection teams globally and the east African teams.
• Develop monitoring and evaluation plans for spray programs specifically on spray coverage
• Design and implement pest resistance management strategy
• Create and maintain a strong connection with IPM service providers to secure good service delivery
• Keep abreast of the global trends in the Crop Protection industry and advise the business accordingly
• Collaborate with the Production teams and put in place processes and procedures to ensure that the Chemical Use Report is forwarded to the Production Managers after each session
• Direct and coordinate the routine calibration of all the measurement tools and spraying equipment
• Lead and take ownership of the integrated pest management programs at the farm
• Train the team to enhance productivity and efficiency
• Evaluate the team to measure performance and identify areas of improvement
• Enforce the HSE rules and regulations and champion the implementation of Syngenta HSE policy and standards in your area of operation by integrating HSE considerations in all activities
