Responsibilities• Editing texts of a specialized or technical nature for accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice.
• Consulting with author departments and carrying out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify errors.
• Providing authors or others submitting documentation with information on specific aspects of editorial policy and practice and assisting them in the preparation of manuscripts.
• Providing guidance to contractual editors and translators with a view to refining their skills and performance and assisting them in solving problems which require specialized knowledge, linguistic insight and political judgement.
• Acting as a report-writer at United Nations meetings held in Nairobi and elsewhere.
• Standing in for the Chief of Unit on request and performing other administrative duties within the Unit which are assigned to her/him.

Education
• A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required. Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Editors or the relevant combined United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors and Verbatim Reporters; this requirement will be waived for candidates who passed one of the relevant United Nations competitive examinations held before 2017 for Translators/Précis-Writers or Verbatim Reporters, subject to an assessment test to be conducted by the hiring manager as part of the Inspira selection process.
Work Experience
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing, is required.
• Experience editing within the United Nations or another international organization is required.
• Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required.
• Report-writing experience is desirable.

Job Summary:• Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the M&E and communication Officer is responsible for the day-to-day tracking and reporting of project activities. The role includes rolling out standardized data collection tools and database systems; monthly data collection; verification of results reported; analysis and presentation of findings and project progress; set up of project accountability and learning mechanisms; and documentation of feedback and response from and to Kwetu and project beneficiaries.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Design monitoring and evaluation plan.
• Ensures evidence-based tracking of M&E plan and oversees its implementation and periodic revision for all project outputs;
• Supports and supervises collection and analysis of data for project M&E in accordance with timeframes set in the project work-plan;

• Develop content and lead in the design of policy briefs, fact sheets and other communication/advocacy collateral in liaison with country implementing partners and Countdown management;
• Manage media relations, support the delivery of press opportunities – press releases, radio and televised interviews of project partners, staff and other stakeholders;

Qualifications and Experience

• Understanding of graphic design and desktop publishing, including Microsoft Publisher and Adobe or Corel suites.
• Visual media skills including use of still and video camera; ability to develop video storyboards and basic editing.
