Our client, Porticus is the international organization that manages and develops the philanthropic programmes of charitable entities established by Brenninkmeijer family entrepreneurs. Porticus currently operates twelve offices on five continents and annually supports more than 2,000 partner organizations in over 90 countries. Working within areas of education, society, faith as well as in the fields of economic development and climate change, Porticus aims to contribute to systemic social change by combining its global expertise with its grassroots networks all over the world. Porticus is seeking to recruit a talented and result-oriented individual to fill the position of a full time Programme Manager to be based in Nairobi. The role reports to the Regional Director of Porticus Africa and, where applicable, has a content reporting line to the Education Portfolio Managers, Effective Philanthropy Group (EPG), regional portfolio team members.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to regional education portfolios by identifying opportunities for innovative global and cross-regional programmes;
  • Map out key stakeholders and context analyses in support of developing new education programmes regionally;
    - Manage strategic partnerships and engage in strategic dialogue on emerging and critical issues;
    - Develop education programmes that aim for systemic and lasting changes and lead the implementation of these programmes;
    - Contribute to interregional engagement and collaboration by actively supporting Porticus as a Learning Organization;
  • Develop proposals to test innovative approaches and build on those approaches to drive additional impact
  • Execute research and development grants in close cooperation with the regional director and grant managers;
  • Evaluate programme impact, share results internally and externally and apply learning for course-correction and future programmes;
  • Negotiate, execute, and manage complex, performance
  • based regional and portfolio grants;
  • Assist in the establishment and management of collaborative relationships with grantees;
  • Help create effective teams, foster teamwork and communication among staff and across organizational boundaries.

Qualifications and competencies

  • Master's degree in education, development or any other relevant discipline; PhD will be an added advantage;
  • At least 10 years of professional programming experience in the field of education in Africa; with demonstrable understanding of program design and development, systems, networking and community change;
  • Strong proven interest in the subject of Whole Child Development and Early Childhood development;
  • Experience working on monitoring. evaluation and learning;
  • Significant relevant work experience with Strong networks and contacts, as well as a broad background Strong organizational skills and team player;
  • Fluent in written and oral English; French will be an added advantage.
