Program description: This program is a Collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other partners and donors. It involves conducting research and programmatic support for activities related to Malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program seeks to fill the position of a Nursing Officer within Antenatal Research Collaborative (ARC) study.
Position: Nursing Officer I (1 position) KMR 8
Location: Kisumu, Kenya
Reporting to: Study Coordinator
Job purpose: The incumbent will be responsible for providing nursing care to study participants, conducting antenatal, perinatal and post-natal care to mother and follow up for mother and baby pair. He/she will participate in taking histories, vital signs, physical examination, anthropometrics, assist in conducting deliveries and management of patients. Coordinate referral of pregnant women, enrollment and follow-ups. .
Responsibilities
• Provide basic triage to study participants
• Enrollment and follow-up of study participants
• Collection of high dimensional longitudinal clinical data
• Participate in antenatal, perinatal and post-natal care of study participants
• Diagnose danger signs of pregnancy and make appropriate referral
• Assist in conducting pre and post-test counselling to study participants
• Maintain strict confidentiality and participants’ privacy
• Maintains adequate quantity of required clinic supplies
• Develop and reviews study SOPs
• Any other duties as assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor

Qualifications
• Diploma in nursing from a recognized institution
• Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and in possession of a valid practicing License
• Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills
• Fluency in both written and spoken English and Swahili
• Experience with collection of high dimensional longitudinal data
• Ability to withstand postmortem procedures
• Computer, organizational, record keeping and counselling skills
• Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy to bereaved family members
