FilmAid has been using the power of film and media for 19 years. Its work in social behavior change communication (SBCC) spans more than 12 years. FilmAid has been working in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps for 18 years with a wealth of knowledge in behavior and attitudes of refugees and hosting communities concerning their health and social habits.
PROJECT BACKGROUND/DESCRIPTION:
FilmAid Kenya implements communication based projects that to achieve the goal of improving refugee/returnee community capacity, resilience and self-reliance to respond to the need for trusted and timely life-saving information in Dadaab, Kakuma refugee camps and Kalobeyei refugee settlement. FilmAid is deploying a three-pronged approach to achieve the goal of improving refugee/returnee community capacity, resilience and self-reliance to respond to the need for trusted and timely life-saving information in Dadaab, Kakuma and Kalobeyei***.*** The components include Skills Development for Refugees and Returnees; Life-Saving Information Dissemination; and Social and Behavior Change Communications (SBCC). At least 80% of the staff (Community Resources Persons) that deliver FilmAid programs are from affected communities; building community self-management and leadership. Supporting and mainstreaming community-led responses to social challenges and building spaces for dialogue on the issues they face build community resilience and individual self-reliance. This enables affected populations to raise awareness, engage influencers (youth, government, UNHCR), and mobilize the larger community to respond to issues affecting them and address their concerns sustainably.
FilmAid Kenya seeks a consultant that will develop and deliver a tailor made training for staff and community mobilisers on facilitation skills when using film and audio educational content. Using predominantly educational films, radio public address announcements and theater with educational content, FilmAid teaches new skills and initiate dialogue on critical health, rights and other development themes to increase participants’ knowledge, self efficacy and modify behaviors so as to achieve social impact. FilmAid staffs that are from communities that the programmes target facilitated these educational sessions.
The aim of the consultancy is to build the capacity of FilmAid staff so as to deliver more effectively SBCC programs by increasing their knowledge and efficacy in mobilising communities, facilitating film/ radio/ arts led educational sessions, presentation skills and reporting skills.
OBJECTIVE: Increase capacity of staff to effectively mobilise, facilitate sessions and report on activities supporting SBCC projects for FilmAid Kenya..

  Specific tasks:
The consultant expected to:
Conduct an assessment with Staff to identify gaps and training needs.
Develop a training manual with modules that cover: (i) SBCC terminologies and definitions (ii) community mobilization skills (iii) facilitation skills when using media i.e. educational films and audio recordings (iv) presentation skills (v) note taking and report writing skills
Provide a training report at the end of each location training


CONSULTANT’S PROFILE
Candidates who apply for this consultancy should ideally possess the following qualification:
• Familiarity with social marketing, SBCC and C4D methodologies for community development
• Previous work in delivering training for organisations using media for community development
• Practical experience using video to conduct dialogue with small groups
• Previous work building capacity in Dadaab, Kakuma or locations with similar contexts
• Ability to work with an ethnically diverse community

Requirements:
The consultant will be expected to submit a proposal indicating the intended methodology to conduct the training needs assessment, prepare the training manual and deliver the training. The methodology should be presented in a clear and simple format. The proposal should also include a detailed work plan and budget proposal.
Time Frame:
Training activities should be conducted ad completed in Dadaab September 9-11, 2019 and in Kakuma September 16-18, 2019. The final report with annexes (training manual, photos, slides, anecdotes) should reach FilmAid Kenya by September 20, 2019
