Senior Nurse, G7

This position is located at the Joint Medical Services, Nairobi duty station.

Under the supervision of the Head Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency calls, performs patient stabilization, and assists Medical Officers and Staff Counsellors in providing adequate care; ensure effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate; and documents case findings. Ambulance escort operations in emergencies as may be required
  • Providing support in implementing workplace occupational health programs, health education, and health promotion programs for staff including mental health and wellbeing programs; participating in the implementation of the mental health and wellbeing strategy
  • Performs clinical assessment of patients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to the UN Medical Officer or to an outside physician, as indicated; Supports absence and case management, mental health referral services, and liaison with management on active cases
  • Ensures preparedness of staff traveling on missions or reassignments, including administration of the appropriate vaccines, instructions on malaria prophylaxis, and other travel-related ailments. Instructs on the individual medical preparedness required for various duty stations
  • Performs diagnostic and screening tests such as ECG, x-rays, laboratory (blood and urine), and other tests as required, as well as counseling staff for VCT services.

GENERAL

  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. Ensures that requirements and background information used for data analysis are documented.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor of Nursing degree OR Diploma in nursing - Kenya Registered Nurse (KRN) Or Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) diploma is required. Current registration and license with the Nursing Council of Kenya allowing unrestricted nursing practice in Kenya required. Training in infectious disease is desirable.
  • Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Successful passing of the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) in English at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) may be accepted in lieu of the GGST. The GGST is administered to applicants when required before the administration of a written assessment and/or interview.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in Nursing or related field is required.
  • Two (2) years, of the ten (10) years of experience, working in an Accident and Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit or Aeronautical medicine is required.
  • Experience in occupational health and safety at the work place setting is desirable.
  • Experience in supporting workplace health and wellbeing programs is desirable.
  • Work experience of one (1) year or more in data analytics or related area is desirable.

 

Light Vehicle Driver, D3

Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Assistant and general supervision of the Chief, Facilities Management and Transportation Section (FMTS), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Drive officials and authorized UN staff to and from various destinations in and around Nairobi.
  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle including cleanliness, checks on fuel, water, battery, brakes, engine oil, etc. and inform the Senior Logistics Assistant of any defects to the vehicle.
  • Record all trip-details in the vehicle movement logsheet, fuel consumption, defects noted, tyre condition, vehicle tools and other particulars, report when vehicle is due for scheduled service, etc. and ensure that the relevant documents, such as insurance, are valid.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Kenya Highway Code and take prompt action in the event of an accident.
  • Collect and deliver documents as required.
  • Drive UN executives assigned, safely and courteously, including in fast moving convoys.

Human Resources Assistant, G6

These positions are located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Staff Pay and Benefits Section (SPnB).

Within delegated authority, the incumbents will report to a Cluster Lead or Unit Chief and will perform the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Carries out on-boarding processes of selected candidates, processes personnel action (PA) Issues Letter of Appointment, and conducts orientation training; monitors contract expiration dates and processes requests and actions contract extension; conducts eligibility review of staff for contract conversation.
  • Processes temporary and permanent staff movements and related administrative actions including those related to inter-agency agreements.
  • Processes staff benefits and entitlements.
  • Processes off boarding and related separation personnel actions.
  • Reviews and prepares submission of documentation to the Pension fund relating to enrollment, award for disability benefit.
  • Advises staff on entitlements and benefits, processes them in the system.
  • Maintains family status of staff members and administers respective dependency entitlements.
  • Reviews and approves time and attendance requests (maternity leave, paternity leave, certifies sick leave, special leave without pay (SLWOP); Rest and Recuperation (R&R) etc.
  • Monitors implementation and compliance with existing regulations through review of personnel actions processed in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), monitors ECC reports and staffing tables for a variety of human resources activities.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

  • Experience in the application of HR Rules and Regulations in an international NGO operational environment is required.
  • Experience in administering a broad range of personnel actions, entitlements and benefits using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is desirable.
  • Experience of serving clients in the area of staff administration of entitlements and benefits in the UN Common system or similar organization is desirable.
  • Work experience of one (1) year or more in data analytics or related area is desirable.
