UNHCR was created in 1950, during the aftermath of the Second World War, to help millions of Europeans who had fled or lost their homes. We had three years to complete our work and then disband. Senior Administrative Asst

Duties

  • Assist in interpreting and processing of entitlements, issuance of contracts and maintenance of various personnel records and files.
  • Attend meetings on day-to-day admin matters; administer the movement of UNHCR staff members and monitor their attendance records, leave plans, overtime and visa requirements.
  • Search office files and records relating to a variety of topics for information and reference.  Select information and records in specified format or on the basis of general instructions for use by others in preparing reports, correspondence, technical papers, project or programme plans and general reference documents.
  • Assist in requisition of office supplies, equipment and arrange for distribution together with the appropriate inventory records.
  • Assist in administrative formalities related to travel arrangements and issuance/ renewal of visas, licences, travel arrangements and other similar documents.
  • Draft correspondence and reports, as required, on general administrative or specialized tasks which may be of a confidential nature within the assigned area of responsibility; Type correspondence, documents and reports, some of which may be highly confidential.
  • Arrange appointments and maintain supervisor's calendar, receive visitors, place and screen telephone calls and answer queries with discretion; Keep lists of names, addresses and telephone numbers of ministers, government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
  • Assist the management to organise and run UNHCR Office and Residential (wherever applicable) compounds.
  • Facilitate various official missions of UNHCR staff and other persons of concern to UNHCR.
  • Prepare attestations and certificates required by the staff members for signature of senior officer.
  • Assist in processing MIP and various other claims by UNHCR staff and other clients of UNHCR.

Nutrition & Food Security Assc

Duties

  • Support the design and implementation of nutrition and food security programmes based on up-to-date assessment and identification of needs in support of national health systems. 
  • Support the planning and implementation of UNHCR Standardized Expanded Nutrition Surveys, joint food security assessments with WFP and partners. 
  • Support staff and partners to implement the Health Information Systems, SENS data base, Post Distribution Monitoring. 
  • Analyse and interpret related nutrition, food security and health data for reporting and advocacy and support the exchange and analysis of information on nutrition and food security at the national level with government and other partners.
  • Provide technical assistance on nutrition and food security to UNHCR's staff and partners.
  • Advise on matters related to procurement of sector-related materials and equipment, and regular update on new development and specifications of such items.
  • Work with stakeholders, including UN agencies, NGOs, Ministries of Health and academic institutions in the development of Nutrition and food security plans associated with refugee movements (including in repatriation programmes).
  • Maintain and update contingency plans for potential outbreaks, refugee and returnee movements.
  • Advocate with government and partners for refugees, returnees and other POC¿s access to local public health and nutrition services as well as for their inclusion as a specific group in government policies, plans and social protection programmes.
  • Undertake and/or support capacity strengthening of UNHCR and its implementing partners to ensure the technical integrity of nutrition and food security programmes in a co-ordinated, multi-sectoral way.
  • Ensure close coordination with other humanitarian actors involved in nutrition, food security and related areas.
  • Undertake regular missions to camps in order to support, monitor and evaluate the implementation of nutrition activities to ensure quality services.

Community-Based Prot Asst

Duties

  • Through relationships with PoC and network of partners, stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment and provide advice to the protection team. Understand the perspectives, capacities, needs and resources of the PoC and advise the protection team accordingly, highlighting the specific protection needs of women and men, children, youth and older persons, persons with disabilities, marginalized groups.
  • Support implementing and operational partners as well as displaced and local communities to develop community-owned activities to address, where applicable, the social, educational, psycho-social, cultural, health, organisational and livelihood concerns as well as child protection and prevention and response to GBV.
  • Assist in working with host communities to involve national civil society groups in improving the protection of PoC. 
  • Assist in the analysis that identifies the capacities of communities of concern and risks they face.
  • Support participatory assessments and ongoing consultation with PoC. 
  • Support communities in establishing representation and coordination structures.

External Relations Officer

Duties

  • Stay abreast of the challenges posed by the political context, the UN and humanitarian reform, and institutional developments in the area of forced displacement and humanitarian operations.
  • Assist in the planning of a consultative process with UNHCR colleagues (Programme, Protection, etc.) with external actors and partners, so as to develop and implement protection and assistance strategy, with clearly articulated objectives, timelines and outputs. 
  • Assist the implementation of a communications strategy that generates support for UNHCR s operations from external partners (e.g. the general public, governments, partners, the media, academia and persons of concern).
  • Assist in the articulation of all issues pertaining to the needs of the populations of concern and the  strategies in place to respond to their needs.
  • Inform the UNHCR Country Team on the UNHCR priorities so as to ensure that they are given adequate weight in the publications and documentation of the UN Country Team. 
  • Assist in the dialogue with donors and embassies and provide accurate information by organizing regular briefings, bilateral meetings and missions. Prepare reports as appropriate.
  • In accordance with the operational context and in close cooperation with headquarters, propose new and non-traditional funding sources, as appropriate, including private sector and humanitarian pooled/basket funds (e.g. Central Emergency Response Fund, Human Security Fund).

Senior Resettlement Assistant

Duties

  • Carry out preliminary interviews and initial assessments to process refugees for resettlement following established procedures.
  • Prepare written documentation for resettlement submission; ensure that records / files of individual cases are updated in a systematic and timely manner.
  • Assess and review individual resettlement cases and prepare individual / group submission for scrutiny by the supervisor. 
  • Provide persons of concern (PoC) with up-to-date and accurate information on UNHCR's resettlement policies and procedures.
  • Comply with UNHCR's standard operating procedures on resettlement, ensuring timely action on cases. 
  • Follow up on cases from time of submission to final decision and departure; ensure effective in-country communication on the status and follow-up on PoC being considered for resettlement.

Duties

Senior Supply Assistant

Duties

  • In compliance with supply chain rules and procedures, support the related supply activities to facilitate UNHCR end to end processes resulting in a timely and quality delivery of goods and services to persons of concern.
  • Apply UNHCR's sourcing & procurement strategy when planning for purchase of important commodities and services.
  • Initiate custom clearance of consignments, draft exemption requests, and liaise with local agents.
  • Support warehouse management, and assist with planning of goods & services deliveries, and provide information on the status of requests and the availability of items in the supply chain.

Duties

  • Stay abreast of legal, political, security and other developments which impact on the protection environment, and in particular, on protection delivery through RSD.
  • Assist in the development of the RSD strategy of the operation and in the annual planning exercise.
