Peer Coach - Kisumu

Purpose of role:

To support a network of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) within a sub-county - primarily by supporting the Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) & Community Health Assistants (CHAs) deliver high impact through best practice, digitally enabled performance management and supervision and supporting the sub-county and county health teams to deliver impactful community health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach and mentor CHAs & CHEWs on performance management, use of digital tools, utilization of dashboards, and use of data for decision making.
  • Accompany CHAs & CHEWs during field visits to offer support supervision.
  • Undertake necessary measures to ensure that CHAs & CHEWs report quality data.
  • Offer first-level support on Android issues faced by the CHAs, CHEWs & CHVs.
  • Participate in Community Events including dialogue & Action days.
  • Support ongoing training and any other pieces of training that may arise.
  • Strengthen adherence to the public supply chain system and commodity tracking by CHAs & CHEWs while ensuring CHVs have access to commodities and are accountable for stock in their custody.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the local government.
  • Attend and support CUs review meetings and sub-county planning meetings.
  • Alert the Supervisor Coach to any arising risks, challenges, and impediments to implementation.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Community or Public health, Nutrition, Social Sciences, business management, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of (1) year relevant experience for degree holders and (2) years relevant experience for diploma holders in the community health field.

Competencies & Attributes:

  • Agility to learn from experience and apply learnings in new situations.
  • Plans prioritize and break down tasks accordingly.
  • Supports in Program/projects data analysis, collation of information, reporting
  • Supervisory, mentorship, coaching skills, and high level of integrity
  • Ability to precisely communicate and share information verbally and in writing
  • Bilingual with French as a desirable language.

Community Health Supervisor - Busia

Purpose of role:

To motivate others, have a great willingness to learn, and want to be part of a cutting-edge team that is setting the bar on improving health impacts in a sustainable way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support recruitment, training, and managing Community Health Volunteers.
  • Motivate CHVs in-field to achieve health metrics. Work to support strong performers, increase the effectiveness of medium performers, and support to improve.
  • Ensure all Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) are delivering impact in the communities both through remote checks and through in-field checks (esp. diagnosis and treatment)
  • Support Community Health Volunteers in learning and correctly using their m-health app.
  • Manage inventory: Ensure no stock-outs and ensure management on a First In/First Out; First Expiry/First Out basis.
  • Manage the financial operations, ensuring the books balance, and cash match sales daily.
  • Manage credit: deposit, timely repayments, accurate reporting.
  • Build strong relations with communities and partners.
  • Conduct regular refresher training for Community Health Volunteers.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or health-related professional preferred.

Experience:

  • Ideally at least 1-year work experience preferably in health/community / social sciences.

Competencies & Attributes:

  • Team player with a drive for results.
  • Ability to mentor and coach Community Health Volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to interact with community elders and clients.
  • Willingness to work extensively in the field under minimum supervision.
  • A good communicator with excellent public speaking skills.
  • General computer proficiency and experience in handling.
  • The ability to speak in Luhya and Luo language is an added advantage.
  • Passionate about working with poor rural households in remote areas is a great plus.
  • Bilingual with French as a desirable language.
