Post-Doctoral Research Fellow – Women in Leadership project

JOB PURPOSE

The primary duty as a postdoctoral fellow is to conduct and publish research.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To conduct and publish original research, in part collaboratively with the Project Lead and Technical leads
  2. Research Design and supervise the collection of various forms of data pertaining to the research project.
  3. Using automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources and developing and maintaining databases, data systems – reorganizing data in a readable format.
  4. Performing analysis to assess quality and meaning of data. Using statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets that could be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction.
  5. Preparing final analysis reports for the stakeholders stating trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
  6. Analyzing local, national, and global trends that impact both the project, organization and the industry performance in relation to the healthcare sector.
  7. Keep up to date with and contribute to research and current developments in the disciplines/areas covered by the research and in the regions where the research work is held at the regional or international level.
  8. Identify opportunities that will contribute to meeting the objectives of the research in terms of relevance, quality, policy impact, capacity building, and in terms of visibility of the project and the project partners.
  9. Participate in strategic networking with other research institutions, donors, lenders, and policymakers.
  10. Provide expertise in preparation of research reports, articles, cases, etc.
  11. Work collaboratively with the project team to respond to proposals and any curriculum development work that may emanate from the project.
  12. Any other tasks that may be assigned by the Technical Lead

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The post holder will be required to have and demonstrate evidence of the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • A Ph.D. that has been awarded in the last five years.
  • Areas of specialization in Business, Sociology, Healthcare management or related fields.
  • An excellent understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including study design and statistical analyses, and a very good command of relevant software packages, such as NVivo, Stata, and/or SPSS.
  • The ability to work in a team, curiosity and discipline, self-reliance and initiative-taking, as well as integrity and creativity.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills, delivering work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills

Marketing Associate

Basic job summary:

To be responsible for representing Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology by giving a clear picture of the University, acting as a link between the university and prospective clients, and preparing the interested applicants for the Strathmore University environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Spearhead and coordinate all marketing activities for Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology courses
  2. Meet with potential applicants face-to-face and provide information on the range of courses, the admissions process and requirements, and give a tour of the University;
  3. Provide course details by responding to e-mails, telephone calls, correspondences, and one-on-one enquiries to ensure that queries of prospective students are attended to promptly;
  4. Track realization of admission targets for all academic programs in collaboration with the Institutes; track statistics regarding student enrolment, geographical distribution of students, financial aid and attrition rate and ensure the University is not over-recruiting or under-recruiting students for all academic programs;
  5. Research and analyze market trends with a focus on student admission trends in order to advise on promotional activities and inform decision making;
  6. Liaise with the university communication and public relations office and the university marketing office on matters to do with advertising Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology courses e.g. website, alumni, etc.
  7. To develop and implement the marketing and communications strategy for the Institute. So as to ensure that the Institute communicates in a consistent, accurate, professional and prompt fashion with all its stakeholders: students, parents, participants, corporate, partners and the wider community.
  8. To develop and implement the Institute’s marketing strategy and quality improvement plan in line with the strategic goals and performance targets set. This will cover all aspects of marketing including market research, product development, students/participants’ enrollment and advertising/awareness.
  9. To build awareness of the Institute and promote good relationships with other institutions or networks which can be helpful in attracting quality students. This includes, developing and managing networking and engagement programs to enhance the Institute’s relationship with clients, prospective clients, partner institutions and the wider community.
  10. Liaise with the university communication and public relations office on the development of promotional materials and any other activities that interprets the Institute to prospective students and clients.
  11. Following strategy guidelines and in consultation with the university communication and public relations office, create clear brand messages which are promulgated across all marketing campaigns
  12. Contribute to the management of media relations and media coverage to strengthen the reputation of Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology in collaboration with the university communication and public relations office.
  13. Advise on event planning to improve audience experience and ensure the communication of key messages and appropriate brand values.
  14. Any other duties assigned to you by your Head of Department.

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any related field from a recognized institution

Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a University environment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities, including tutorials directed towards the delivery of subjects at undergraduate level. Assist in preparing course outlines and maintaining records to monitor student progress.
  2. Keep abreast with developments within the academic discipline or professional practice, and to share this knowledge to shape curriculum content, design of learning materials and delivery methods in line with the University’s standards.

Basic job summary:

Working in a team responsible for ICT Infrastructure Services, the jobholder will support service delivery and projects execution towards ensuring the efficient and effective running of all ICT infrastructure to enable the University meet its operational needs and subsequently achieve its strategic mandate. This will entail planning, design, building, configuration, testing, implementation and management, of University-wide ICT Infrastructure Systems, which includes but is not limited to the following technologies: server hardware and software; storage hardware and software; virtual systems and software; local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN)and network devices such as routers and switches; network security devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion prevention systems (IPS); internet bandwidth and related management tools; cloud-based infrastructure services; physical infrastructure related systems such as CCTV, Access Control; Communication systems such as VOIP-based telephone systems, email system, emergency evacuation systems among many others.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Network and Systems Management: To ensure that Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) are infrastructure systems are fully available, effective, efficient and sufficiently secure as well as set policies and standards. Further it includes innovation, capacity planning and continuous monitoring and instituting of ongoing improvements so as to continuously meet business requirements and user expectations.
  2. Service Management and Documentation: Facilitate the development of service designs, operational processes, standards and procedures within the purview of ICT Infrastructure in line with IT service delivery best practices such as ITIL and ISO 20000, with the intention of increasing their maturity. This includes maintenance of technical documentation related to configuration and change management of infrastructure as well as technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis as part of Incident and Problem management.
  3. ICT Project Management: To ensure allocated ICT infrastructure projects well planned and are managed professionally using appropriate project management methods and techniques to minimize risks to the University, while fully realizing expected business benefits within time and budget constraints
  4. Vendor Management: Ensure proper formulation, authorization and management of vendor contracts and service level agreements (SLA) for ICT infrastructure acquisition and development projects to ensure contract deliverables are achieved, with consideration of the full systems life cycle (including ongoing maintenance) and that contract risks are minimized.
  5. Talent Development and Supervision: Guide, mentor and coach assigned, as well as other ICTS staff in growing their job-related technical skills, organizational skills, team spirit and leadership capacity. This further involves assigning supervisees, tasks and responsibilities and monitoring delivery of the same in meeting University service delivery requirements and expectations.
  6. ICT Security Management: Implementing, enforcing and reviewing with an intention to keep it current, the University’s information security policy and the supporting standards and procedures; and at an infrastructure level, ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of systems. This includes ensuring logical, physical and environmental security of ICT Infrastructure systems and data according to set security standards and business/user expectations.
  7. Disaster Recovery (DR) Planning: Ensure the maintenance of appropriate backup and recovery infrastructure used as part of DR planning for ICT systems and services. This further include disaster recovery planning for ICT Infrastructure systems and regular testing to ensure availability in the event of a disaster to be within stipulated & expected timelines and thresholds (i.e. RPO, RTO, and SDO).
  8. Policy Formulation and Compliance: Participate in the formulation, review, updating and propagation of appropriate policies, related standards and procedures to keep them relevant to Strathmore University requirements and in appreciation of best practice. Further, is to abide by them and ensure their enforcement in order to maintain quality ICT Infrastructure services in the University. And to also work towards resolution of identified non-conformance (s) within ICT Infrastructure systems and services as established by quality assessments, audits among other assurance exercises.
  9. Professional Development: Grow and maintain professional development by attending educational workshops/seminars/conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks and participating in professional societies.
  10. Reporting: Support decision making by formulating appropriate technical as well as managerial metrics and insights and using those to design concise and simple reports to apprise senior IT management, respective ICT Committees and/or business management on matters pertaining to ICT Infrastructure services, systems and projects according to agreed schedule/cycles or on ad hoc basis.
  11. Other Duties: Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT), Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications (BSc. TC), Bachelor of Science in Informatics and Computer Science or an ICT related degree qualification.
  • Network Administration Certifications (CCNA/HP);
  • Windows Administration Certification (MCSE, etc.);
  • LINUX Systems Administration Certification and/or Proficiency;
  • IT Service Management and best practise (ITIL , CISA, ISO 20000, etc.); and
  • VIRTUAL Server Administration (VMware).

Experience:

  • 2 years relevant experience in Networks Administration and Systems Administration role within a busy and highly automated ICT environment.
  • At-least 4 years working experience with some prior exposure in an end-user support role
