The Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health (CMNH) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in maternal and newborn health. Our vision is to end preventable maternal deaths, stillbirths and early neonatal deaths and improve the health of mothers and babies in low- and middle-income countries. CMNH-LSTM has delivered successful programmes that aim to improve maternal and newborn health in Kenya since 2009. We have a long-standing working relationship with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Kenya, as well as with key stakeholders active in the health sector including the Department for International Development (DFID), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF and World Health Organization (WHO).
SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER-Emergency Obstetric & Newborn Care (EmONC) Ref 419-19
Salary up to 5,200,000 Kshs per annum(incl. 13th month salary)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Senior Technical Officer to join the CMNH team in Nairobi, Kenya. The main scope of this role is to provide technical assistance and support to the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MOH) and county governments to develop policies and systems and leverage financial commitments to sustain programme interventions. You will be expected to have a high level of technical expertise to lead the implementation of the programme work plan in Kenya together with the ability to write technical activity reports, policy briefs and other knowledge management outputs. .

Job Qualifications:
• The successful applicant will hold an MBBS or Midwifery qualification or equivalent, coupled with a Master's degree in public health/epidemiology.
• You will have a good understanding of current internationally agreed strategies to address maternal and newborn health and be experienced in working with the Ministry of Health, Bilateral Donors and UN organisations, in addition to coordinating high level meetings and workshops and drafting reports and knowledge management outputs for a variety of audiences.
• Your ability to work as a team leader will be vital to the role as you will be responsible for the management of specific work streams and development of technical staff. Regular travel to supported counties will be required in the role.
