JOB DETAILS:
Living Goods is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to join our Global Software Engineering (GSE) team and report to the Director, of GSE.
As the Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you will lead the GSE team in designing, developing, testing, and rolling out software solutions for users such as CHWs and Supervisors to enhance the program’s impact on the ground and help save more lives through a more responsive community health system. You will be a core part of the DH management team for pioneering disruptive digital interventions as well as mission-critical tools including CHW mobile applications and robust data systems such as dashboards, data analysis, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Director (GSE) to lead the core application design, development implementation, and deployment of digital health tools, solutions, and products including coordination with the Digital Health teams at the country level to ensure effective translation of requirements into technical specifications, delivery of products to schedule with high quality.
• Facilitating translation of complex functional and technical requirements into a consumable and prioritized backlog.
• Assess, refine Define and manage the entire software development lifecycle in an agile delivery environment focusing on continuous deployment at pace while maintaining the quality and performance of software systems including supporting systems in production, responding to production incidents, and managing unplanned work.
• Provide hands-on engineering and technology support to the engineering team for technical/coding/architectural design, execution, and problem-solving for LG digital solutions.
• Design, develop and implement reliable, scalable, efficient, and secure software systems that are preferably built on widely adopted open-source platforms (such as Global Goods) and operating in across multiple cloud environments.
• Grow, mentor, and inspire a growing team of software engineers and other direct reports providing clear and constructive feedback and creating opportunities for learning and growth.
• Contribute to LG’s overall organizational strategy as a key member of the Living Goods global management team.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Software development, IT, Software Engineering, or a related field is essential.
• Master’s degree in software / IT-related field is desirable.
• 08+ years of professional experience in software development with at least 3+ years of software development team management experience.
• Hands-on experience in designing, developing, and implementing fit-for-purpose digital solutions for scale operations and programs preferably in the digital health space.
• Hands-on experience in handling two or more digital projects/products/solutions/platforms where the role would have involved designing and executing medium to large-scale digital / software interventions in rather fluid and complex technical procedures such as core platform upgrades, cross-platform integrations, and advanced open-source product customizations while collaborating with other internal engineering leads and/or external partners
• Hands-on experience working with open-source platforms and tools such as Digital Global Goods (CHT, CommCare, OpenSRP, OpenMRS, OpenLMIS, DHIS2, etc.) will be strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong understanding and knowledge of the core architectural constructs of computer science / ICT technology including the application layer, database layer, etc.
• Strong software design, development, and implementation understanding.
• Hands-on experience in designing, building, and testing Java EE applications including strong command of JSD and familiarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM, and RESTful APIs.
• Ability to effectively work in a UNIX-like environment as well as with asynchronous JavaScript in the browser and in Node.
• Ability to work with front-end JS frameworks, such as AngularJS, and ReactJS, even better if you are already having expertise with one of them.
• Good knowledge of database systems including SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and deal with shifting priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication with the ability to engage various levels of technical and non-technical stakeholders for communicating, brainstorming, designing, and rollout out digital health solutions and interventions.
• Bilingual with French as a desirable language.
