JOB DETAILS:
Primary Responsibilities: 
1. Strategy - Develop and implement impactful communications for development strategies that support the Africa Program’s and the Center’s strategic outcomes and mandate.
2. Programs messaging and campaigns – Design and lead campaigns that promote behavior change, social transformation, and community/stakeholder engagement around the African programs outcomes and our core issue areas in the Continent.
3. Partnership building - leverage their networks to develop and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, media platforms, partners, and our local communities to maximize engagement around our core issue areas in the continent and advance our legal policy advocacy goals, and demonstrate value add of Center’s engagement with various key actors that we work with.

Content development, management, and delivery
• Develop, produce, and disseminate communications that include multi-media productions that provide for multi-channel, multi-format, and multi-audience communications for greater public and partner engagement - including communication targeting children and youth audiences. Interface with Partners to identify opportunities for capacity-building and provide innovative recommendations on how to spotlight Partner initiatives.
• Ensure that all communication for development initiatives is culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and inclusive of all stakeholders and communities in line with the Center’s DEI and core commitments

Quality assurance and alignment with Center communications policies -
• Conduct research and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of communication for development strategies and campaigns and adjust strategies as needed, including ensuring high-level editorial/production and quality control for all African communication content and ensuring that messaging that is free from editorial, production, brand, child protection errors is delivered.
• In consultation with the Center’s Communications Team at HQ, ensure adherence to the Center’s brand attributes in all center PR materials, including for materials developed by vendors or consultants.

Resource stewardship
• In consultation with Africa programs leads, Associate Director Advocacy and external relations and the SRD develop and manage budgets for communication for development initiatives and campaigns.
• Supervise and mentor communication staff and ensure they are trained and equipped to support the organization's development initiatives and campaigns.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public/Media Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field is required.
• At least ten years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in leading the design and delivery of Programs communication for development strategies, messaging, and campaigns at International Development Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Donor Agencies, or Embassies. Additional understanding of and ability to synthesize political, social, and cultural issues and organizations and shape public debate in the African region.
• Excellent leadership and demonstrable track record of working and managing cross-cultural stakeholders and forging strong communications, production, and creative partnerships.
• Broad awareness and deep understanding of the global media landscape and current and developing strategies for communicating effectively in a continually evolving media environment.
• Proven ability to manage the workflow of projects, including facilitating project scope, identifying goals and deliverables, planning, scheduling project timelines, and monitoring project progress. Experience leading/managing multiple and overlapping content production assignments across multiple contexts that engage, compel, and demonstrate knowledge, impact, expertise, and proven ability to prioritize according to strategic need and effectively project manage to deliver timely outcomes.
• Excellent technical communications skills in the following areas: editorial, production, design, and proven ability to produce high-quality multi-media content.
• Ability to identify and understand different audiences and utilize appropriate communication channels and content, as well as an agile work ethic – able to quickly develop, implement, learn, adapt, and change.  
• Demonstrated ability to research, write, fact-check, and edit various communication pieces for target audiences with minimal supervision.
• Ability to define and strengthen organizational brand awareness and reputation through multiple channels.
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, handle simultaneous assignments, and work within a team setting.
• Fluent English is required, and knowledge of a second language is an advantage.
• This position demands responsiveness to context, openness to working flexibly, and willingness to adjust according to operational realities and requires the ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
