Job Profile
CAFOD works with partner organizations to combat poverty and injustice and to build a strong and dynamic civil society. The post of Safeguarding Adviser — Africa, will be one of two leaders for CAFOD on this very important issue with a responsibility to advise, integrate and embed good practice relating to safeguarding into the work of CAFOD and our partners in our programmes across Africa.

Your Role
You will provide expert advice to CAFOD staff and partners enabling them to implement safeguarding policies and develop safe programmes and projects. You’ll design and provide tailored training programmes. This will be undertaken in supporting the development and implementation of CAFOD's Safeguarding Framework which will include ensuring CAFOD's organizational policies and practices are up to date and relevant and liaising with cross-sector initiatives. This work will be done in close collaboration with the Safeguarding Adviser — Global base in London.

Your Profile
You will have an in-depth understanding of safeguarding (including protection from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment and child protection) and the power imbalances that contribute to abuse. You will understand the legal aspects and have experience of the practical application across a Non Governmental Organization. You will be fluent in English and French with excellent spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills, inter-cultural sensitivity and confidence in dealing with different audiences. You will have an understanding and sympathy of working with Church organizations.
