JOB DETAILS:
Reporting and Communications Specialist

Job Summary:
Assists in the creation and delivery of reports, program materials and announcements, events and other deliverables pertaining to organizational and donor communication for FHI 360’s Crisis Response/ humanitarian portfolio in Northern Ethiopia. Focuses on developing and delivering clear, concise and coordinated reporting across multiple deliverables and on fostering opportunities for external communication. Assists program in meeting all donor deliverables, including situational reports, baseline reports, endline reports and program strategy plans. Liaise with HQ Crisis Response backstop and Programs team to ensure deliverables are met on time and scope.

Accountabilities:
• Gathers input from programs teams, and writes, edits a broad range of reporting and communications deliverables that details program challenges and successes.
• Provides publicity and promotional support for community outreach activities.
• Develop concept notes and unsolicited proposals for United States Agency for International (USAID) and/or the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), and other potential funders, including the gathering and editing of technical sections, compiling budget inputs, and ensuring swift submission in line with donor regulations and the organization's business development procedures
• Responsible for donor communications, including formal and informal reporting and developing communication products for the organization Corporate Communications Department.
• Ensure field offices have appropriate filing processes in place to identify and archive relevant project documentation, donor communications, and evidence of program implementation. Support routine audit activities as required.
• Prepares a variety of promotional materials to highlight the work of Crisis Response programs in Northern Ethiopia including articles/features, photos, and other related media material.
• Responsible for reporting duties as required by the donor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:
• Strong understanding of donor policies and communications.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and be comfortable participating both as an effective contributor and a listener in group settings which include senior staff.
• Well-organized, resourceful, effective and efficient at coordinating multiple resources to get things done and must have proven track record of successfully working on multiple tasks at once and foresees and plan around obstacles.
• Ability to work based on deadlines and write effectively for the appropriate audience.
• Familiarity with humanitarian response architecture, Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), and Sphere standards
• Experience communicating with USAID as a donor, preferably the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)
• Strong interpersonal skills and display evidence of good leadership and influencing skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and clients.
• English fluency required.

• Works on problems that are diverse in scope and require judgment in resolving or making recommendations for solutions.
• Exercises judgment within defined policies and procedures to obtain solutions to perform duties.
• Decisions made generally affect own job or specific functional area.
Supervision Given/Received:
• Has no supervisory responsibility.
• Receives instructions on new assignments.
• Reports to Response Coordinator.

Education:
• Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent • English, Journalism, Public Relations or Related Field.

Experience:

• Typically requires 2-5 years of writing, editing, and publications experience.
• Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
• Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
• Experience writing proposals, reports, and other materials specifically for USAID.
• Geographic experience in francophone countries preferred.
• Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO).

Typical Physical Demands:
• Typical office environment.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

• Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer.

Travel Requirements:
• Less than 10%
