The CyberPeace Institute
The CyberPeace Institute is an independent and neutral non governmental organization whose mission is to ensure the rights of people to security, dignity and equity in cyberspace. The Institute works in close collaboration with relevant partners to reduce the harms from cyberattacks on people’s lives worldwide, and provide assistance. By analyzing cyberattacks, the Institute exposes their societal impact, how international laws and norms are being violated, and advances responsible behaviour to enforce cyberpeace.

Description of the mission
Based in Nairobi, we are looking for a Regional Adviser who will support the CyberPeace Institute’s effort in assisting civil society organizations based in Kenya and other countries via the CyberPeace Builders program.
In collaboration with the headquarters’ team, the Regional Adviser’s mission is to develop a network of humanitarian NGOs, and companies active in cybersecurity. The Regional Adviser based in Kenya covers the East Africa region.
The ideal candidate is passionate about cybersecurity and has demonstrated knowledge of the Kenyan-based and regional civil society environment as well as SMEs active in cybersecurity or larger corporations. This is a tremendous opportunity to build trusted relationships with civil society actors, offer them support against cyberattacks and promote peace in cyberspace with the help of local and international corporations.

Responsibilities
In close collaboration with the Senior Program Manager, the Regional Adviser will:
• Use innovative ways to develop and nurture trusted relationships with civil society organizations and corporations based in Kenya and other countries;
• Pitch and present the CyberPeace Builders program to civil society organizations and corporations and potential Builders;
• Formalize agreement with civil society, corporations and builders;
• Gather cybersecurity needs of local civil society organisations and analyze them to create tasks;
• Organise and participate in events to increase the visibility of the CyberPeace Institute activities among civil society organizations in the region;
• Support the delivery of pre & post-incident cybersecurity assistance, such as risk assessments, cybersecurity awareness training and other activities, provided by the CyberPeace Institute staff and Builders;
• Coach, lead and support local Builders.

Experience, skills and attributes
This mission requires a combination of good knowledge of local and regional civil society organizations and corporations, cybersecurity, as well as community building. As such, it requires:
• At least 5 years of academic or professional experience in cybersecurity or related activities;
• A demonstrated knowledge of the regional civil society environment;
• A demonstrated knowledge of the regional SME environment;
• Experience in pitching and relationship building with different stakeholders;
• Be a resident in Kenya and have the ability to travel easily in the region, sanitary restrictions permitting;
• Self-motivated and goal oriented;
• Team-oriented, pragmatic, hands-on, can-do attitude;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Language of work is English and Swhahili, Sheng language an asset.

The CyberPeace Institute tackles cyberattacks through a holistic approach based on our four pillars:
• Assistance: bring cybersecurity support to NGO’s that provide essential services to people around the world.
• Analysis: research and analyse cyberattacks, in collaboration with other actors, to understand and report on their impact on people, to enhance public knowledge and transparency about violations of international laws and norms and to strengthen accountability in cyberspace.
• Advancement: monitor, raise awareness and advocate for the respect and development of international law and norms governing behaviour in cyberspace, and for responsible conduct by state and non-state actors to reduce harm and ensure respect of the rights of people in cyberspace.
• Foresight: forecast and investigate opportunities, risks and threats to people associated with emerging and disruptive technologies, and analyse global cyber challenges.
