The QI Professional, Newborn Screening (NBS) Quality Improvement (QI) will assist with content development and program design with the aim of translating the goals of the APHL NewSTEPs QI program into meaningful and engaging activities. This position will support the Manager, Newborn Screening Quality Improvement Newborn Screening and Genetics and participants (newborn screening programs and stakeholders) of the NewSTEPs QI program.
Responsibilities include assisting with content creation and program design, providing program support for meetings including but not limited to meeting facilitation, understanding how continuous quality improvement can be used to improve newborn screening systems and improve patient health outcomes, and addressing the needs of partners and program participants both internally and externally. The QI Professional must display excellent customer and member service skills and will have frequent communication with members and other programs at APHL.

Duties & Responsibilities
Continuous Quality Improvement
The QI Professional should have general knowledge and understanding of quality improvement (QI) and some experience with the application of QI tools including PDSAs and run charts. The QI Professional will support the Manager, Newborn Screening Quality Improvement Newborn Screening and Genetics in designing, developing and disseminating quality improvement materials specific to newborn screening.
Meeting Management and Facilitation
The QI Professional will lead and facilitate meetings and conference calls with newborn screening programs and stakeholders of the NewSTEPs QI program including:
• NewSTEPs QI subcommittee members,
• NewSTEPs QI staff,
• conference vendors /project managers,
• participants of the QI Projects bi- monthly discussion group,
• NewSTEPs website vendors/project managers,
• and other partners.

Content Development Support for Webinars, Meetings and Workshops
With direction from the QI Manager, the QI Professional will be responsible for designing content for national and regional meetings, workshops and webinars. Content development includes, but is not limited to assisting with agenda development, presentation/slide development, creation of recorded content, the design of virtual and in-person meetings, the creation of meeting documents and resources, and the development of marketing materials for webinars, meetings and workshops. Meeting and workshop coordination will be conducted according to APHL policies and may require liaising with the APHL meetings, governance, customer service and education and training teams.

Project Management Support
The QI Professional will be responsible for supporting a number of program activities with a focus on the following:
• leading the design and development of the APHL NewSTEPs CQI webpages and working alongside the QI manager and stakeholders of the NewSTEPs QI program to plan and develop all necessary content.
• developing and facilitating programming for alum of the NewSTEPs QI Projects.
• managing conference planners and vendors to ensure the highest quality of national and local meetings and that all deliverables are met in a timely manner,
• assisting with outreach to and scheduling of various speakers, presenters and other partners for national webinars, workshops and meetings.
• quarterly outreach to NBS programs to further understand TA needs and areas for support.

Other Activities
• Provides day-to-day project management and organizational support for NewSTEPs as it relates to the QI program. This includes ensuring the timely and accurate scheduling and coordinating of national meetings, conference calls, online meetings, and webinars, notifying the participants, sending out the agendas, etc. Records minutes and notes from meetings and calls and makes them available to program staff and participants in a timely fashion. Posts, organizes, and maintains electronic files. Prepares correspondences, reports, presentations, graphics, etc. Formats reports. Posts information to the CQI listserv and NewSTEPs website.
• Serves as an information liaison for NewSTEPs and stakeholders (e.g., state newborn
• screening programs, Genetic Alliance, the National Coordinating Center for the Regional Collaboratives, the Regional Genetic and NBS Service Collaboratives, Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) regarding newborn screening and genetics activities as they relate to the NewSTEPs QI program.
• Assists the QI Manager in preparing documents, reports, and correspondences for the association. Prepares presentations about APHL Newborn Screening and Genetics in Public Health QI activities for self and others to deliver at conferences, webinars, and seminars. Participates in federal, state and private stakeholder meetings and other programmatic activities as needed. Assists in developing progress reports, board reports, quarterly reports, annual reports and minutes.

Employment Standards- Education and Experience
1. Master’s Degree in public health, public health education, adult education or curriculum/instructional design with minimum 3-4 years’ work experience or bachelor’s degree in public health, public health education, adult education or curriculum/instructional design with 5-8 years’ work experience.
2. Takes initiative to lead and effectively coordinate and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
3. Experience developing creative content including templates, visuals, infographics etc. for various mediums including online, print and email.
4. Knowledge and application of graphic/visual design best practices.
5. Experience facilitating trainings, workshops and meetings of varying size.
6. Experience in project management and the application of basic project management tools.
7. Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, typing, word processing, proofreading, writing and reading comprehension.
8. Capable of working under deadlines and handling multiple projects with competing priorities and numerous stakeholders.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service oriented.
10. Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
11. Ability to anticipate team and project needs.
12. Team player with ability to be flexible.
13. Well-organized and detail oriented.

This is a hybrid position. The individual is able to work remotely but must be able to attend all in-person meetings and conferences.

Special Requirements
Travel is required to APHL headquarters in Silver Spring, MD bi-annually. This trip is not eligible for reimbursement.
