JOB DETAILS:
The Project Research and Implementation Associate works with the Africa Alliance team to support documentation and implementation of innovative community-based interventions that increase awareness of and access to women’s reproductive health care. This position supports a project that focuses on contraceptive uptake and continuation for women and girls who access and use medical abortion pills outside of health facilities. The Project Research and Implementation Associate is responsible for supporting the implementation and monitoring of Ipas Kenya’s project interventions in collaboration with the country team, Ipas NC (North Carolina), local organisations, and community intermediaries. In addition to achieving project goals, the Project Research and Implementation Associate works at the organisational level to advance Ipas’s vision to improve community and research efforts related to sexual and reproductive health.
This position is based in Nakuru.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Assistance
• Monitors and contributes to the documentation and analysis of Project results (both qualitative and quantitative) and summarizes technical results for cross-unit and organizational sharing
• Serves as a member on the project User-centered design team and supports ongoing project adaptations using a User-centered design approach.
• Participates in the development and facilitation of capacity building training for partner NGOs and community intermediaries
• Facilitates and ensures participation of relevant county MOH and national government departments in the implementation of the project.
• Support development of various analytic reports and documents for sharing and project learning.
• Supports in Organizing technical advisory group meetings and workshop for dissemination of R&E findings, both internally and externally, including report preparation
• Contributes to documentation of project outcomes, shares results organizationally and as appropriate to stakeholders.
• Supports in developing and maintaining records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies
Research Implementation Support
• Ensures quality control and consistency with Ipas global standards for research and evaluation (R&E)
• Contributes to document preparation for donors and other stakeholders, including data analysis and narrative inputs
• Support training and capacity building activities to data collectors
• Provides technical and managerial support during the implementation of R&E activities, including data collection, data management and documentation, and results reporting
• Assists in ethical approval, implementation, data analysis, reporting, and administrative support for operations/intervention research to test program models
• Supports accurate documentation and data collection from intervention areas to global teams and organizational learning
Communication and Coordination
• Maintains regular and ongoing communication with technical and program unit staff in Ipas headquarters office and partner NGOs.
• Support Coordination of PMAC Technical Advisory Group (TAG) communications and meetings to align project strategies with prevailing MOH public health guidelines.
• Assists to develop project activity designs, timelines, budgets, and workplans in collaboration with project team
• Supports in monitoring the progress of research activities, including supervision of field teams and coordination with partners
• Performs other duties as assigned
Internal & External Customers / Suppliers as well as Third Parties
• Reports to Community Engagement Manager in reference to workflow, deadlines, reports, and projects
• Collaborates with all in-country staff in reference to data and data collection issues
• Works with other R&E Associate IIIs in reference to statistical programming, data management and analysis
• Collaborates with Community Access / Youth Programs and Policy and Advocacy unit staff in reference to M&E technical support, data issues, and collaborative meetings Collaborates with associates, advisors and managers to plan and implement community access programs and workshops
• Works with associates, advisors and managers to obtain the resources necessary to develop and lead community access and interventional programs
• Reports to country and regional managers and directors in reference to community access plans, objectives and any potential roadblocks to success
• Collaborates with external entities, including vendors, consultants and government agencies, to plan, develop, and augment community access and interventional programs
• Collaborates with Health Systems Associates and Advisors in reference to training schedules, training conduction periods, site and provider challenges, and the number of site activations
Minimal Requirements for Position
• Bachelor’s in social science/public health or in related field.
• 4+ years of experience conducting monitoring, evaluation, and research in health programs.
• Experience in implementing sexual and reproductive health project and capacity building to community-based organizations would be preferred.
• Strong management skills, including experience in project administration, supervision of field staff, coordination of field work, and communication among global and national staff and partners.
• Strong qualitative research experience including data collection, management, analysis, and presentation of qualitative data.
• Sound understanding and experience in quantitative research.
• Demonstrated ability in word processing and spreadsheet (Excel). Experience in statistical computer packages (Epi Info, Stata) is also desired.
• Strong written and spoken communications skills in English and Kiswahili.
• Ability to travel 50% within Nakuru County to study sites for supervision, monitoring, and follow up/survey.
• Ability to work as an effective team player.
• Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Requirements
• Experience in user centered design is a plus
• Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality on work related matters
• Data analysis, monitoring and evaluation including experience working with community intermediaries to expand access to contraception services.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
• Experience working in a non-profit organization
