Organizational Context
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organization with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organization was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 56 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.
The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, more than 724,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects. In Kenya, JRS has two projects: an urban refugee project in Nairobi focusing on Education and Livelihoods and field project in Kakuma Refugee Camp focusing on Education, Integrated psychosocial inclusive Education programme in Centers and Safe Shelters.
Key Responsibilities
The position, under the supervision of the Project Coordinator-Livelihoods will perform his/her duties in support of the Livelihood department. S/he will perform below tasks
• Ensure that the Misereor project is implemented in line with the objectives and work plans
• Support the implementation of activities at the field level including assessment, home visits, identification, and verification of beneficiaries.
• ensure relevant and quality trainings and support to beneficiaries, Vocational trainings, and skill development trainings
• Provide support to beneficiaries to access the small grant and put into productive use.
• Deliver quality outcomes working in close liaison with
• Communities and Field Assistants at the field level in the day-today implementation of activities.
• Conduct Vulnerability Assessments for beneficiaries; review the status of the beneficiaries and recommend for assistance.
• Honestly raise challenges and issues faced at the field level to the Project coordinator and Country Program Officer
• Should be open adopting to changing contexts and activities where necessary or when the need arises
• Develop work plans and implementation strategies for Misereor project with support from other team members
• Produce quality reports and timely implementation of planned activities according to the work plans
• Work with partners on the ground and maintain positive relationships.
• Documentation of best practices on Livelihood
• interventions and processes to inform the next proposal
• Meet all reporting obligations met in a timely manner, this includes quarterly reports, and reports developed for donors
• Challenges identified and resolved in liaison with the responsible Coordinators
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Qualification and Competencies
• A degree in community Development, Sociology, or any other related social science courses.
• At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience in an NGO and/or international organization
• Good knowledge and experience in community development work
• Experience in data collection using modern digital technique is an advantage
• Experience in conducting assessments and reporting
• Experience in implementing community livelihood programming, project design, implementation, and evaluation.
• Project management skills and a demonstrated ability in achieving agreed deliverables
• Budget development and financial monitoring skills and experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary Controls.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including the proven ability to be part of a team
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and especially written communication skills.
• Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, determine priorities, take initiative, maintain high levels of self-motivation, work as part of a team and independently as and when required, and in multi-cultural settings
• Experience working, coordinating, and collaborating with partners and key stakeholders; community workers, local and national authorities, I/NGOs CSOs, and the UN.
• Commitment to and understanding of JRS, values and principles and policies.
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• High levels of computer proficiency including MS Office suite package
• Previous experience with a faith-based NGO is an added advantage
• Desirable:
• 3 years’ experience in community work preferably with NGOs in Nairobi
• Previous experience in international organizations
• Previous experience with a faith-based NGO is an added advantage
• Commitment to and understanding of JRS, values and principles and policies.
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• High levels of computer proficiency including MS Office suite package

Terms and Conditions
Contract is for One year, renewable, with an initial probationary period of Three months. The JRS remuneration policy is aligned with the JRS ethos to offer effective and professional services and at the same time express solidarity with the people served.
