JOB DETAILS:
Swisscontact is implementing the Skills for Life (S4L) Project, a 3-year project whose goal is to "promote socio-economic integration of refugees and their host communities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei through enhancing self/employment, job creation and income generation".
The role:
Swisscontact is looking for a highly capable Project Assistant who will be responsible for creating, planning and implementing the psychosocial support intervention, SGBV programming and community development. The successful candidate will design, implement strategies and mobilize the community to respond to emerging gender issues affecting both female and male genders in Turkana West.
The ideal candidate will work directly under the Social Skills Intervention area and provide all-round support to other project components.
TASKS:
Gender Mainstreaming:
• Facilitate and support the integration of gender perspectives (such as the framework and checklists) in the programming across all project components.
• Provide technical support to and identify opportunities for the development of relevant advocacy and communication/information materials to address gender (in) equality issues.
• Develop innovative and sustainable GBV implementation strategies while closely monitoring behaviour change and regularly appraise on existing strategies on SGBV.
• Report all SGBV related cases to the component lead for referral and further assistance.
Coordination and Networking
• Actively participate in scheduled meetings such as GBV inter-agency coordination meetings.
• Participate in conducting trainings for partners on relevant organizational development areas and support peer learning between Swisscontact and other partner agencies.
• Strengthen existing referral systems and networks of psychosocial services providers.
• In collaboration with other partners, design prevention interventions within the host and the refugee communities.
Community Engagement and Outreach
• Conduct sensitization and dialogue sessions with the wider population on ways to prevent and stop SGBV.
• Facilitate the formation of support groups to enhance community engagement and ownership on GBV prevention work.
• Identify and strengthen community structures through engaging community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that survivors receive adequate support at the community level.
• Work on any other tasks assigned by the line managers.
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Draft and share weekly, monthly, quarterly situational and annual reports.
• Use appropriate data collection tools and submit assessments and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Engage in supervision, debriefings, and other shared sessions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Minimum of bachelor’s or higher degree in Counselling, Psychology, Law, Gender and Development, Sociology, Social Work.
• Training on GBViE will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience within the field of protection, sexual and gender-based violence programming, social work.
• Experience working in diverse communities within the refugee/host community context
• Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, with special emphasis on women rights and SGBV (desirable)
• Ability to work in a team, under tight deadlines and in a dynamic work environment.
• Excellent communication skills with a high level of written & spoken English; Spoken Swahili.
