JOB DETAILS:
Programme Support Intern [temporary]
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the overall supervision of the Somalia Programme, Officer in Charge (OiC) and the direct supervision of the Programme Officer leading the Programme Coordination Unit, the the intern will:
• Provide assistance in the clearance and approval of legal documents such as Agreements of Cooperation applicable in the implementation of the programme and project activities
• Support the regular updating of the Agreements of Cooperation monitoring tracker.
• Support in the quality assurance of submitted reporting documents by Implementing Partners.
• Support in the compilation of project procurement and recruitment plans as per the agreed timelines.
• Support the preparation for project related meetings including logistics, procurement of venue and budget preparation.
• With the support of the ICTS office, assist in the setting up on new user accounts, laptop assignment and trouble shooting of system and network problems.
• Assist in the compilation and updating of inventory of non-expendable items (for the Nairobi and Somalia Offices)
• Ensure adequate and efficient support services for all meetings and conferences held in Nairobi and Somalia
• Process both national and international staff and consultants visa applications.
• Maintain orderly files on on-going projects and project/programme

Education
• Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
• Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
• Be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• Preferred area of studies: Undergraduate or Graduate in Social Science, Development Studies, and Business Administration or related field.

Work Experience
• No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
• Knowledge in computer software applications is desirable. Do you have knowledge in Microsoft suite?
• Proficiency in creating and managing data bases in Excel is desirable. Do you have proficiency in creating and managing data bases in Excel?
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
