ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Economic and Social Rights Centre (Hakijamii) is a National Human Rights Organization that works with marginalized groups to support them in advocating for the realization of their economic, social and cultural rights. Its overriding mission is the strengthening of the capacity of people’s organizations to effectively and directly participate in governmental decision-making on the realization of economic and social rights as well as in holding duty bearers accountable for the realization of these rights through legal, political and social accountability mechanisms. Hakijamii also champions substantive human development through people-led bottom-up developmental policy making, planning, budgeting and developmental implementation that meets the urgent needs of vulnerable and marginalized communities to enhance human dignity and ensure shared developmental prosperity for all sections of society.

Hakijamii has established itself as a leading player internationally, regionally, nationally and locally on advocating for economic and social rights, with its focus areas being land and housing, education, health, water and sanitation for socio-economic transformation. The organization has strategic community partners in the counties of Nairobi, Kisumu, Kwale, Garissa, Kakamega, Mombasa and Isiolo.

Hakijamii is seeking to hire a Program Manager to support in the operational management of its Health, Water and Sanitation program

JOB PURPOSE
The program manager is responsible for the operational management of the Health, Water & Sanitation program. This involves project design, development, implementation and reporting.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Manager shall have significant experience in community mobilization, advocacy and policy change as well as project management in relation to health, water & sanitation with a bias to the most marginalized groups. With support from the Executive Director and other Program Managers, the Program Manager will in addition have responsibility to:
• Lead the implementation of substantive activities under the right to health, water and sanitation program
• Identify and formulate areas of possible litigation on the right to health, water & sanitation in Kenya
• Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and promote networking with current and potential funding partners
• Manage the development and dissemination of relevant information materials
• Promote learning activities and programmatic collaboration.
• Innovate approaches and new ideas towards effective and strategic advocacy, policy monitoring and implementation
• Work together with Hakijamii management team and partners including community groups in program development.
• Develop work plans and progress reports as required by Hakijamii, donors and other partners
• Actively identify, pursue and lead program specific fundraising under the guidance of Hakijamii’s overall fundraising team.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor degree in Law, Public Health, Social Sciences or relevant discipline. A Master’s degree in any of the disciplines listed will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in program management and Economic and Social Rights issues
• Knowledge of contemporary issues on health, water & sanitation right
• Experience working in a Non-Governmental Human Rights Organizat
• Knowledge of relevant international and domestic laws on economic, social and cultural rights including engaging with national, regional and international human rights monitoring bodie
• Experience in fundraising and project manageme
• Experience in working with key state and non-state actors on water, sanitation and health issue
• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
