Our client, is a large and well established international co–educational day school based in Nairobi, following the British National Curriculum (BNC). It incorporates kindergarten, preparatory school, and senior school including A-Level school.
PROCUREMENT MANAGER
Job Summary
Our client is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and qualified person to the position of Procurement Manager. .

The Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), main responsibilities will involve:
a) Develop and implement adequate procurement policies, and review the policies annually to ensure they remain relevant and aligned to the prevailing business and professional environment.
b) Develop and implement guidelines on conducting of supplier pre-qualifications.
c) Develop a comprehensive database of all products and services that are currently or would be potentially consumed by the Company. This should also include the specifications of the products and services to ensure they are in line with set standards to meet the Company’s objectives.
d) Identify current and potential suppliers of all products and services that meet the set product/service specifications.
e) Develop and implement guidelines for screening and vetting of potential and existing suppliers.
f) Ensure the Company’s purchases are at competitive prices.
g) Prepare procurement plans that will ensure the Company does not run out of any critical operational supplies and consumables.
h) Develop and implement guidelines on procurement of imported products and services.
i) Develop and implement guidelines on procurement of products and services to be paid in cash and in advance of receipt of products/services.
j) Ensure proper management and controls around unfulfilled purchase orders.
k) Ensure the procurement process applied is of high integrity and inspires management’s confidence.
l) Provide lead and technical support in the installation of a software application for interface with suppliers to better manage purchase orders and deliveries.
m) Develop effective training programs that will ensure high levels of adherence to procurement standards in the Company.
n) Review and implementation of the department’s information technology programs that will ensure efficient delivery of services.
o) Ensure other departments see value in the procurement department through cooperation and support to the departments.
p) Develop and motivate staff in the department.
q) Maintain membership and actively participate in the activities of a recognised professional institution that will enhance skills and knowledge on procurement related matters.
r) Assist the ED on any other procurement related matters.


The Person
The individual will be hardworking, possess good work ethics, presentable, team player, with good communication, and interpersonal skills. He/she must also possess a good understanding of operational and commercial management. Knowledge and experience in the education sector will be an added advantage. High integrity, agility, ability to use discretion, attention to details, flexibility, and being a self-starter will be Essential.


Requisite Qualifications
• Fully qualified CIPS with over 10 years of working experience in a similar position, or the role of a purchasing officer in a busy environment.
• A university degree in purchasing and supplies or an economic field.
• A member of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) in good standing.
• Computer literacy, especially on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
• Skills and training in soft skills such as delegation and supervision; planning and prioritising; and time management.
• Over 35 years of age.
