JOB DETAILS:
The National Land Commission of Kenya is an independent government commission whose establishment was provided for by the Constitution of Kenya to, amongst other things, manage public land on behalf of the national and county governments, initiate investigations into present or historical land injustices and recommend appropriate redress, and monitor and have oversight responsibilities over land use planning throughout the country. It was officially established under The National Land Commission Act, 2012
An officer appointed to this position is responsible for the management of legal advice to the commission and safeguard its interests through various legal initiatives and facilitate decision making for enhanced effectiveness in the fulfillment of its constitutional and statutory mandate .
Responsibilities
• Ensure implementation of policies, procedures and regulations on legal affairs and enforcement
• Give input in development of legislation as appropriate
• Assist in representing the Commission on litigation and court cases for the Commission
• Prepare preliminary legal documents/instruments before submission to the Deputy Director for approval
• Undertake the Commission’s law reviews to ensure set standards and procedures are effective
• Facilitate the process of gazettement of notices to ensure proper communication is sent out
• Draft contracts, lease agreements and memorandum of understanding between the Commission and its collaborators
• Assist in enforcing contracts and leases to maintain standards and procedures
• Carry out surveys and research on assigned legal issues; coordinate and implement work plans for the legal section

Qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in Law
• Postgraduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
• Nine (9) years of service, three (3) of which should be in a comparable position from a reputable organization
• Practicing Certificate as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
• Certificate in Management course lasting not less than four weeks from a recognized institution
