Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide developmental assessment and clinical care to pediatric patients, working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Identifying specific developmental and psychological disorders in children and ensuring they receive the care they need so that they can thrive.
• Creating a therapy program to overcome their developmental obstacles.
• Confer with parents on an as-needed basis, offering them resources and mediating parent/provider conflict, as well as discussing children’s assessments, needs and interests, and strategies to use in facilitating children’s growth and development.
• Actively support parental involvement by planning and facilitating responsive and directed parent activities.
• To teach parents, educators, and other caretakers how to help their child achieve his or her goals and reach their potential.
• To work with social services and community assistance agencies to compile resources, organize educational and childcare arrangements, and make referrals when necessary.
• Teach and mentor medical students, nurses and other doctors in the delivery of clinical care.
• Any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from a recognized institution by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Master’s Degree in Paediatrics and Child health or equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other recognized University by the Medical Practitioner and Dentist Council.
• Fellowship in Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.
• Valid Practice License from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• At least one year working experience as a Paediatric Developmental Specialist in a reputable hospital.
