Global Director Education/Learn

ROLE PURPOSE: 

Save the Children is seeking a transformational development / humanitarian executive to lead our Education/Learn work globally. Taking advantage of Save the Children's vast network of program experts and global footprint, this global leader will use innovation, technology, data, and research to ensure that Save the Children stands as a state of the art institution working with children and their communities efficiently and effectively. This position will provide an unparalleled opportunity to implement the cutting-edge of development, humanitarian and human rights theory and practice across a network of 100+ countries and 25,000 staff. This includes helping Save the Children become effectively localized, data-driven, productively partnered, a powerful advocate, and to stand as one of the world's most recognized voices in the defence of the rights of every child everywhere.

This is the most senior Education Thematic Director in Save the Children. This role has overall accountability for the quality and impact of Education work across our child rights programming framework (service delivery, systems/policy/advocacy, and civil society and childrenā€™s engagement to hold duty bearers accountable) across Save the Children, promoting programme innovation and drawing on and contributing to the best global evidence on what works to guarantee childrenā€™s rights, and particularly their right to education.

As part of Save the Childrenā€™s 2030 Ambition, the organization has chosen to inspire three Breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, so that every child, and especially those suffering from inequality and discrimination, can Survive, Learn and be Protected. The 2030 breakthrough ambition that is led by the Education/Learn Director is that All children Learn from Quality basic Education.

This role will work with other Global Directors in our organizational efforts to achieve the four goals in our 2022-24 strategy for children, working to ensure that:

  • Children have a healthy start in life
  • Children go safely back to school and learn
  • Children live free from violence
  • Children benefit from safety nets and resilient families

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Existing Global Leadership experience in Education/Learning Sector
  • Extensive global education technical experience with relevant advanced degree/s (e.g. MD, MPH, DrPH)
  • Technical familiarity with Education competencies and programming, with expertise in at least one area
  • Demonstrated experience working with multinational partners, governments and academic institutions
  • Inspirational leader with ability to communicate the vision for the LEARN Breakthrough
  • Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated experience in motivating large direct and indirect teams
  • Significant international development and humanitarian experience designing, implementing and evaluating programmes relating to education and other relevant child rights programming.
  • Thorough knowledge and record of accomplishment of influencing education public and programme policy, and other relevant child rights programming, in development and humanitarian contexts.
  • Demonstrable ability to engage effectively across internal/external stakeholders and communities
  • Knowledge of policy, research and evidence-based methodologies in education programming, and other relevant child-focused programming.
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to gender analysis in informing programmes and policy.
  • A combination of technical, research, public advocacy and local experience.
  • Understands that work of development and humanitarian action can be complex and volatile.
  • Country level experience in international development, preferably through long-term assignments.
  • Proven experience delivering results and outputs
  • Energy and drive to create change in a large, complex organisation
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching ā€“ ability to work with people of all levels from CEO to junior staff and across all functions,
  • Experience creating and managing high-performing teams including building shared objectives, quality control, evaluation, motivation, performance management, staff development and training.
  • Commitment to building and supporting a diverse and inclusive technical leadership team
  • Demonstrates ability to make technical expertise relevant and available to inform programmes
  • Engaging with donors and public finance stakeholders across humanitarian, development and developed contexts.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Save the Childrenā€™s mission, values and programme approaches.
  • Fluent spoken and written English, with at least one additional language highly desirable, preferably French, Spanish and/or Arabic
  • Senior leadershipexperience working in Save the Children, another large INGO, donor, Government or multilateral agency

 

 

Humanitarian Operations Advisor ā€“ Project Management

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The purpose of this role is to provide both Humanitarian and Program Operations expertise to one of SCIā€™s global priority projects ā€“ PPM PRIME. This role will work within the Project Management Function (PMM PRIME project workstream), providing subject matter expertise, to ensure that the solution delivered to country offices in 2022 and 2024 is fit for purpose. The role holder will use their Humanitarian and Program Operations experience to define how PRIME should be used by staff delivering projects, identify what new ways of working will be needed and document the accompanying guidance to enable the solution to be adopted. They will work with the Head of Project Management to agree the services provided to support humanitarian responses. Finally, the role holder will work closely with the PRIME Product Owner to identify areas of enhancements and/or continuous improvements relevant to their field of expertise.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • An excellent theoretical and practical understanding of project management processes i.e. familiarity with SCIā€™s Project Management Methodology or PMD Pro, as well as multiple years of experience working within SCI/SCAā€™s Program Operations function in Humanitarian set ups;
  • Demonstrable ability to challenge the user-friendliness of set up, requirements and design for implementation and regular usage;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate/mediate; to facilitate the resolution of conflicting business requirements;
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to question thought partners across functional areas;
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and able to take the initiative and ownership to deliver results;
  • Cultural awareness and experience of delivering solutions internationally;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Engaging as well as assertive, influencing and negotiating;
  • True passion for results, responsibility and proactivity;
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English;
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; MS Teams
