Nurse Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, update and ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to the unit.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the nursing unit and provide quality cost-effective care for the patient population.
  • Provide supervision and strategic direction to all the members of the nursing department.
  • Manage the departmental budget and develop cost containment strategies within the unit.
  • In charge of performance management within the unit.
  • Take lead in managing quality improvement and patient safety programs within the facility.
  • Facilitate learning opportunities to ensure personal and professional growth of departmental staff.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary committees.
  • Participate in the recruitment of the nursing staff.
  • Advise management on the best nursing practices.
  • Play the link between the nursing unit and other departmental heads.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices
  • Good knowledge of the Kenyan Healthcare system.
  • Excellent leadership & interpersonal skills

Registered Nurse (Mental Health)

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Maintain nursing guidelines by following the laid down Standard Nursing Policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to duty Rosters and Patient Allocation; Assess, Plan, and implement nursing care using the Nursing process framework.
  • Conduct periodic Mental assessments to patients as needed.
  • Maintain the nursing ethos as prescribed in the Nurses’ Act Cap 257 of the Laws of Kenya and the Hospital regulations.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment with other health and non-health professionals to uplift multi-disciplinary team spirit.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patients, friends, and family, and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Provide information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests raised by clients.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by following the stipulated nursing guidelines.
  • Protect Self, patients and employees by strictly adhering to Infection Control Measures and occupational health and safety measures.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintain documentation of patient care services by diligently and faithfully filling all necessary patient documentation.
  • Achieve financial objectives by utilizing available resources, using medical equipment correctly and billing promptly services offered.
  • Update inventories daily and ensure emergency equipment are updated on a daily basis.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies and attending all scheduled Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Participate in community awareness programs on mental health services including home-based care.
  • Perform any other tasks that may be allocated by the Supervisor(s).

Job Requirements

  • A Diploma in Kenya Registered Nurse (Mental Health & Psychiatry)
  • A Higher Diploma in Psychiatry nursing will be an added advantage
  • 2- Years’ experience in a busy psychiatry hospital
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Compassionate.
  • Effective communicator.
