Field Security Associate

Description

Swissafricaid is an organization that exists for helping the poor who are neglected and affected. We are recruiting our Filed Security Associate to be based in Maralal, Samburu Kenya.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide assistance to the supervisor in evaluating the level of risk and assessing the existing security measures for the Swissafricaid staff, operations, premises, partners and persons of concern.
  2. Conduct regular security assessment missions to the field as required in coordination with UNDSS/other agencies; gather and analyse information about the security situation during field missions.
  3. Be aware of security protocols and procedures in place in accordance with the UNSMS policies, Swissafricaid Policies and the, Security Risk Management process for the designated area ;
  4. Conduct checks for compliance and advise management on any deficiencies.
  5. Monitor the physical security of Swissafricaid premises and reports on deficiencies.
  6. Monitor and supervise the guard force In accordance with relevant UNSMS policies and guidance.
  7. Swissafricaid Protection Colleagues in efforts to ensure the physical protection and security of refugees and other persons of concern.
  8. Provide support during implementation of security-related projects.
  9. Assist in the monitoring, updating and reporting of security-related events.
  10. Assist in the processing of administrative security issues.
  11. Maintain relations and cooperation with UN security management system actors, local law enforcement agencies, civil authorities and other relevant agencies.
  12. Provide security briefings and training to Swissafricaid staff, and as appropriate partner staff, on relevant security risk management processes  and measures for the country concerned to include security situation updates, , the warden system, communication notification and reporting procedures, travel planning  procedures road air and  fire safety.
  13. Respond to staff queries on security issues and provide immediate assistance as required.
  14. Provide security-related advice to the manager and other staff.
  15. Maintain liaison and build relationships with Host Government Security Forces and security counterparts.
  16. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education & Professional Work Experience

  1. Years of Experience / Degree Level
  2. For G6 - 2 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher

Project Coordinator

Description

The position holder will be responsible for putting in place social protection networks and systems that protects women and children from violence; ensuring transformed attitudes and perceptions on the values and roles of women and children in the society, increase access to rehabilitation services and protect from violence; and ensuring increased ownership and entitlement of production assets and resources by marginalized women and children.

Responsibilities

  1. Project Implementation and Management
    1. Oversee day-to-day implementation of all project activities, providing constructive supervision to the project team to implement, monitor, evaluate work plans including monitoring & evaluation mechanisms as agreed with the Program Director and in coordination with the National Program Development Advisor.
    2. Lead the field-based team in the development of new proposals and initiatives for the Resilience Building for Refugees (ReBuilD) projects
    3. Support the field team in timely quality implementation, monitoring of the work plans and reporting ensuring that activities are in line with the project strategy, and reflect the commitments Swissafricaid made to the donor and the community.
    4. Work with the field team to plan for future program directions in terms of beneficiary needs, new sites, and / or new programs
    5. Ensure compliance with Swissafricaid and donor finance and logistics guideline, including all aspects of procurement and asset management.
    6. Contribute to assessments, project design, and budgeting.
    7. Ensure the project is in compliance with Swissafricaid, donor and national requirements
  2. Communication, Coordination and Representation
    1. Represent the Swissafricaid Kenya with local government authorities (administrative, sectoral and security officials), non-state actors, UN agencies, and other NGOs at the field level. Engage and or delegate to project team for sector representation as appropriate.
    2. Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at the district level including donors, government actors, local traditional leadership, beneficiary populations and their representatives, etc.
    3. Represent the Swissafricaid Kenya with beneficiaries and communities to encourage accountability to those we serve.
    4. Coordinate Swissafricaid Kenya project activities with relevant officials and other humanitarian agencies. Acting as the main focal point for interactions with donors and partners,

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors degree in Development Studies, Project Planning and Management, International Relations, Gender & Conflict, Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences and any other relevant management or technical field.
  2. Proven working experience at management level in humanitarian assistance or development within an international environment, and preferably with non-governmental organizations.
  3. Professional experience in managing protection, Gender Based Violence, livelihoods or/and child protection projects refugee environment. Preference given to candidates with experience in more than one area.
  4. Excellent leadership, people management, interpersonal and negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to develop harmonious teams in cross cultural context.
  5. Knowledge and experience of cooperation with governmental and international agencies in the field of refugee assistance, advocacy and emergency is essential
  6. Strong diplomatic skills. Ability to establish good working relationships with partners, donors and other stakeholders in a sensitive environment.
  7. Strong people management skills: the ability to effectively lead and supervise team.
  8. Advanced computer skills including Ms word processing, Ms excel, database systems, and PowerPoint.
  9. English fluency required.
