JOB DETAILS:
• The purpose of this position is to support the engagement of the women and youth to contribute to a clean and sustainable environment in Mukuru through gainful waste management. Tunawiri Kwa Taka: Thriving Through Waste project is a 11-month project which aims to contribute to an improved, safe, clean, and healthy environment while improving the livelihoods of women and youth in Mukuru Slums, Nairobi County, Kenya.
• The project officer will work directly with Program & Sponsorship Coordinator Nairobi Metropolitan Program with oversight supervision from the Area Manager Eastern Region. The officer will be based at Nairobi Metropolitans Program (NMP) SAT Center- off Mombasa Road) office with frequent field visits to the program sites.

Duties & Responsibilities of the project officer
• The project officer will work directly with Program & Sponsorship Coordinator Nairobi Metropolitan Program with oversight supervision from the Area Manager Eastern Region. The officer will be based at Nairobi Metropolitans Program (NMP) SAT Center- off Mombasa Road) office with frequent field visits to the program sites.

Duties & Responsibilities of the project officer
To ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the project implementation the Project Officers main duties and responsibilities will include and not limited to:-
• Support improve waste management processes through mobilization, capacity building and overseer engagement of 5,438 individuals in groups (collection, sorting, and recycling/reuse) in Mukuru and its environs for a healthy and clean environment
• Support and increase the business capacity and entrepreneurial skills of 400 women and youth engaged in Waste Management in Mukuru and its environs.
• Support the establishment of a coordination forum between buyers and collectors of waste to create sustainable linkages within the industry. (Ready guaranteed market for the waste collectors)
• Oversee the strengthening of the waste Management Systems, policies, and by-laws
• Oversee the overall Project Management, Monitoring, and evaluation with support from the Monitoring and Evaluation unit
• Monitoring the project and documenting best practices and sharing with others

Expected Outputs
• Up-to-date records on the management of the project
• Comprehensive, timely, and accurate reports detailing the project status and results
• Successful implementation of the program
• Youth group linked to consumers of plastic and other waste materials and smooth implementation of the project.

Qualifications
• A minimum of a Diploma/Degree in any of the fields- Engineering, Environmental science, Social Sciences or public health
• practical experience in project planning, implementation & monitoring preferred.
• 2 years’ experience in the management of community projects that have a waste management component
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
• Demonstrated Experience in developing systems to capture and measure the impact of Waste management in urban/ informal settlement
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with the donor, project stakeholders, County collaborators, and staff at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision to meet strict deadlines
