Job purpose
The Officer, Finance will be tasked to perform general accounting and financial reporting duties for Evidence Action and ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and booking transactions and proper serialization and safe filing of documents. The position has access to the organization’s confidential information that needs to be protected by adhering to the organization’s values and keeping information confidential
Duties and responsibilities
Accounting: 80% of the role
• Maintain Petty cash on imprest system and conduct cash counts on a regular basis
• Input data into the Accounting System
• Receive and check imprest requests and returns, ensuring that proper documentation is filed for each transaction, relevant approvals have been obtained, etc.
• Ensure that internal controls are adhered to in the day-to-day office operations.
• Conduct cash counts on regular basis, including after withdrawals
• Maintain and file financial records and post accounts data into the accounting system
• Update accounting records as and when transactions take place, and assist the Accountant to ensure that proper documentation is filed for each transaction
• Liaise with Accountant in preparation and review of staff Imprest accounts on a regular basis
• Maintain and file financial records after posting transactions into Intacct.
• Carrying out asset verifications
• Verify the service providers’ invoices and make recommendations before payment
• Full accountability of funds and accurate charging to donors as per their budgets.
Team support 20%
• Represent the Finance team in various program meetings where necessary.
Preferred QualificationsRelevant Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
• Professional Certification, preferably CPA II will be an added advantage.
• At least 2 years of experience performing responsibilities required for the position and demonstrating progress in the role
• Experience working for a Non-profit Organization and managing programs
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A decision-maker who can communicate directions and solutions
• Understanding the business role function within the programs and organization, and set objectives based on that.
• Proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft applications, and Skype.
• Proficient in spoken and written English & communication skills.
• Audit experience and managing donor grants is desirable
• Use of the Intaact accounting software.
