Background and Project Description
Triggerise has received funding from Elton John's Aids Foundation (EJAF) on HIV care and treatment. The project aims to integrate mental health care and increase access to HTS, PrEP, HIV care, and treatment to adolescents and young people aged 15-24 years in Mombasa County for a period of 3 years. Therefore, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of health care providers to offer mental health care services within Mombasa County.
The Role
Triggerise is looking to engage an experienced mh GAP IG trainer to train 60 healthcare providers (nurses and clinical officers) in Mombasa County and 2 Triggerise staff.
The Objective of the Assignment
The principal objective of the assignment is:
● To equip the health care providers with the skills to use the mhGAP IG to diagnose, provide both psychosocial and biological (medication) interventions and make referrals for the following mental health (MH) conditions: Child and adolescent mental and behavioural disorders, Depression, Psychoses, Substance use disorders and Suicide and self-harm.
● To build the capacity of the 2 Triggerise staff to facilitate mh GAP IG training sessions.
Deliverables
● 60 healthcare providers gain the capacity to use the mhGAP IG to diagnose, provide both psychosocial and biological (medication) interventions for the above mentioned five MH conditions.
● 60 healthcare providers gain the capacity to use the mhGAP IG master chart and e-mhGAP app as a reference point.
Running header
● Training schedule, training pre and post-test, a power-point presentation of the training with participatory training exercises, visual aids and any other relevant materials.
● Comprehensive final training report that includes: training methodology used, any comments and suggestions made, conclusions and recommendations based on lessons learned for future interventions.
● Training certificates to be issued to participants upon completion of the training.
Estimated Duration of Assignment
- Customise/prepare training materials, inclusive of pre and post-test in April 2022 this will take 2 days.
- Facilitate a 3-day mhGAP training in 2 clusters of 31 trainees each in April & May 2022 this will take 6 days.
- Submission of the final training report in May 2022 will take 1 day.
Required Qualifications
The preferred candidate should meet the following criteria:
● Advanced university degree in the mental health field.
● Sound, analytical and technical competence in the subject matter.
● Excellent interpersonal communication skills including experience in facilitation of training/workshops.
● The candidate should submit a technical and a financial proposal and is expected to demonstrate that s/he has a track record of not less than three (3) years of experience executing similar assignments.
● The Technical proposal should have the following details: understanding of the assignment and its tasks, methodology and approach to be used, and operational plan with a clear timeline.
● Outline of the team that will implement the work, with CVs for key personnel and clearly specified roles for each team member (if any).
● Have conducted similar exercises in the recent past - applicants must prove that they have enough experience in assignments comparable with the work they are bidding for in terms of scope and complexity as specified in section 4 & 5 of this TOR.
