Summary
BOC Kenya Plc (BOC) is a leading supplier of industrial, medical and special gases in East Africa. The Company’s customer base cuts across a large spectrum and includes public and private hospitals, food processors, civil and mechanical engineering contractors, motor vehicle body builders, hotels and restaurants, the informal business sector (“Jua Kali”) and small and medium enterprises.
Job Purpose
The Maintenance fitter reports to the maintenance supervisor. He/She will be responsible for ensuring 100% availability of plant equipment and machinery in line with statutory and safety standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and optimizing effectiveness of equipment to ascertain that it is always available for production. You will also
• Create a suitable planned maintenance schedule and ensure that it is adhered to in a timely fashion
• Conducting diagnostic testing on malfunctioning systems to determine the root cause of the malfunction.
• Resolve equipment problems to minimise interruptions resulting from equipment breakdowns/failures; Where breakdowns occur on equipment should be reinstated in the shortest time frame possible.
• Proactively inspect and maintain equipment in a manner that conforms to the company policies and procedures
• Continuously evaluate and assess equipment to be maintained in consultation with the Maintenance Supervisor and perform repairs whilst updating the relevant registers.
• Prepare, establish and implement appropriate working procedures to ensure the provision of comprehensively documented processes for all equipment maintained.
• Implement a robust programme for renovation/upgrades of plant and equipment in consultation with the supervisor
• Provide daily feedback and report to the Supervisor on progress and work completed against schedule and reasons for variance, recording delays and recommending action to eliminate future delays
• Ensure proper calibration of equipment as per the optimum working standards.
• Test operation of equipment trace all filling processes, repair where necessary and retest.
• Ensure all paperwork and reports are completed and sequentially filed for easy retrieval.
• Adhere to SHEQ and Departmental policies; record accidents, “near misses” and ensure safety concerns are documented and unsafe practices are eliminated from the work place
• Conduct housekeeping at maintenance areas.
Job Qualifications
• Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering or related field.
• At least Five (5) years’ hands on experience in plant maintenance in a manufacturing industry.
• Experience working proactively as a member of a project team or organization.
• Demonstrate ability to conduct and train on autonomous and preventative maintenance activities
