JOB DETAILS:
Basic job summary:
• To be responsible for assisting and providing a range of legal support and administration to the Corporate and Legal Affairs office.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Associate, Corporate and Legal Affairs:
• Draft and review documents such as contracts, MOUs, NDAs and other legal instruments between Strathmore, its affiliates and other parties.
• Assist with the legal department’s filing system and database including updating of the legal digital archiving.
• Attend, conduct and manage required legal litigations matters in respect of the University and its affiliates, alternative dispute resolution and Litigation matters.
• Draft legal opinions, statements of claim, demand letters and responses to various legal issues from external parties as may be required.
• Support and promote compliance of the University and its affiliates with the relevant legislations such as the Universities Act, 2012, Employment Act among others.
• Prepare, draft and review University policies and instruments to ensure compliance with the law, consistency with University policies and procedures and other relevant legislations.
• Provide support in maintaining the accuracy of the University’s legislation, including but not limited to support in drafting of the University’s Statutes, Regulations and Policies.
• Attending meetings and providing secretariat services as may be directed from time to time.
• Timely preparation of correspondence from the University and to third parties.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
• A Bachelors of Law (LLB) degree;
• Post Graduate Diploma of Law from Kenya School of Law;
• As an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
Experience:
• Two-years post admission experience in a busy law firm or in-house counselling setting
