Associate Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements

Competencies

PROFESIONALISM: Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to particular sector, functional area or other specialized field. The ability to analyze and interpret data in support of decision-making and convey resulting information to management. Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Transport Engineering or Planning. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in an international organization in transport policy and planning is required.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and establishing working partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders is desirable.
  • Experience in design and implementation of urban mobility projects is desirable.
  • Progressively responsible for coordinating and managing activities related to urban mobility / road safety projects is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written), one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, is required; knowledge of French, the other working language is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Land and Conflict Expert

Qualifications/special skills

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in conflict, peace and security, land management, gender development studies, sociology, or another field relevant to this assignment is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years' related experience in undertaking projects or assignments related to land and conflict on customary tenure is required.
  • Proven expertise and knowledge in conflict analysis/assessments design and review of programmes focused on gender equality, equity and mainstreaming in land governance is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of customary land tenure and its related challenges and opportunities in Uganda is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience with UN and/or international organization and government bodies is highly preferred.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other UN languages is an added advantage.

Information Management Assistant

Competencies

  •  PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of electronic record keeping and relevant information systems and networks. Ability to undertake research, maintain records in a systematic fashion and to retrieve necessary materials with maximum speed and accuracy. The ability to perform analysis, modeling and interpretation of data in support of decision-making. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Commitment to implementing the goal of gender equality by ensuring the equal participation and full involvement of women and men in all aspects of work.
  •  CLIENT ORIENTATION : Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients" and seeks to see things from clients' point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
  •  TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS : Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.

Education

  • Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional qualifications in information management is desirable.
  • Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. The GGST is administered to applicants when required before the administration of a written assessment and/or interview. Successful passing of the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) in English at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in modern archives management, record keeping, library, information/knowledge management or related area is required.
  • Experience with electronic record-keeping systems and content management systems is required.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible work experience with web content management is required.
  • Experience with records appraisal and application of disposal schedules is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data management or related area is desirable
