Senior Legal Counsel, Regulatory Affairs

Key Responsibilities

  • Representing the Group in Public policy matters and stakeholder engagement and input on legislation during drafting.
  • Regulatory Issues management (Review and analysis and position statements. Stakeholder and regulatory (includes regional/international) compliance – CBK, CMA, CA, IRA, RBA, CAK, KAMP, PRISK).
  • Legislation and regulation analysis (review and analysis, preparation of position statements and business advisory).
  • Consolidation of analysis of legislation and advisory statements (position statements and resultant action matrix).
  • Product and outsourcing regulatory approvals (Prudential guideline requirements for approval of products, outsourcing).
  • Responding to and dealing with customer complaints through regulators (CBK and CAK).
  • Group wide approach to regulatory affairs.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

The Person

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Law.
  • Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage.
  • 5 years’ post – admission experience.
  • 4 years’ experience in Legal Drafting, Corporate & Commercial Practice and Risk Management.
  • 3 years’ experience in Legal Communication and Advocacy.

 

Senior Legal Counsel, Litigation

Key Responsibilities

  • For the assigned portfolio of work, conduct legal research, collate evidence, prepare witnesses for pre-trial and hearing, develop concept papers, prepare legal briefs and opinions as well as develop effective defence strategies, arguments and testimony in preparation for legal proceedings of cases in liaison with external lawyers;
  • Represent the Bank before any court or tribunal as a witness or to watch brief as necessary;
  • Manage and measure external lawyers’ performance to ensure efficiency;
  • Create legal awareness and providing advice on suitable action to avert and/or minimize litigation;
  • Scrutinize legal fees and ensure they are raised in accordance with the Remuneration Order and Service Level Agreement;
  • Update database of all non-debt recovery litigation to ensure the same is consistently up-to-date and provide reports as may be required.
  • Render legal guidance to Retail branches on matters relating to bank policies, processes and procedures on all queries received with a view to mitigating legal and reputational risks.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

The Person

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Law.
  • Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage.
  • 5 years’ post – admission experience.
  • 4 years’ experience in Legal Drafting, Corporate Governance and Risk Management.
  • 3 years’ experience in Legal Communication and Advocacy.

 

Senior Legal Counsel, Commercial

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and management of contracts including leases and other general commercial law issues.
  • Contract Management: drive contract lifecycle from drafting through completion of negotiation process, review and contract execution.
  • Product gate process management including participation of tender opening activities, supplier evaluation and business project initiatives.
  • Support in contract negotiation and collaborate with business teams on developing effective relationships with contractors and vendors
  • Legal opinions and research: opinions/guidance in respect of commercial contracts being negotiated and signed as well as legal and commercial requirements of all product implementation.
  • Legal awareness training as appropriate on commercial legal issues
  • Probate Administration: oversee administration of probate accounts.
  • Data management and reporting on statistics.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

 

The Person

Principal Legal Counsel, Governance & Shared Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination of board meetings including ensuring board papers are presented in a timely manner.
  • Timely recording of minutes at directors and shareholder meetings.
  • Maintenance of statutory registers of directors and shareholders.
  • Supporting Group wide legislative and policy and procedures compliance requirements for the subsidiary boards.
  • Support in ensuring Group wide compliance with continuing obligations under the listing rules and related regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous review of governance documents (charters, policies, TORs) to ensure these are up to date and remain relevant.
  • Supporting in the Group wide board evaluation and training.
  • Supporting in regulatory compliance and reporting (CMA, CDSE, IRA, NSE).
  • Coordination and support of subsidiary legal activities.
  • Subsidiary corporate records regulatory compliance.
  • Co-ordination of subsidiary legal risk & compliance activities.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

The Person

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Law or CPS.
  • Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage.
  • 8 years’ post – admission experience.
  • 6 years’ experience in Legal Drafting.
  • 5 years’ experience in Legal Communication, Advocacy and Risk Management.

 

Principal Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance

Key Responsibilities

  • Legislation and regulation analysis (review and analysis, preparation of position statements, business advisory, compliance tracking). Consolidation of analysis of legislation and advisory statements (position statements and resultant action matrix).
  • Legal risk and compliance advisory (on business activities, projects, procedures and policies).
  • Overall management of risk related divisional activities (DORCCO, KRIs. RCSA. KCSA, Ethics Compliance, BIA, RVA, BCP & disaster recovery, audit tracker and crisis management).
  • Regulatory issues management (review and analysis and position statements on regulatory compliance – CBK, CMA, CA, IRA, RBA, CAK, KAMP, PRISK).
  • Intellectual Property (IP): register and maintain data/information on service marks, trademarks, logos for KCB Group. Handle disputes arising thereof (e.g. infringements of IP and/or Copyrights). Intellectual property registration and life cycle management.
  • Case law management (internal and external case law and legal opinions).
  • Policies, procedures and standards (including process flows, templates and forms) (creation, maintenance, versioning and retirement).
  • Management of authorities and authority limits (powers of attorney, authority limits sign off requirements, expenses, file processes and consent judgments).
  • Preparation and dissemination of practice notes, FAQs and training materials and guidelines.
  • Any other duties assigned.

 

The Person

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Law.
  • Should be an advocate of the High Court.
  • 8 years post admission experience.
  • Experience in legal drafting, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution and legal risk management.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable and distributed Platform as a Service systems with Kubernetes and Kubernetes flavors such as Openshift.
  • Responsible for interfacing with application development teams to ensure applications fit within the infrastructure with scalability, reliability and security designed and implemented from the onset.
  • Responsible for establishing and improving team processes and workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity of people and systems to support cloud infrastructure service.
  • Lead in automation of infrastructure at massive scale to support scaling of digital services.
  • Lead the Open source first as a fit for the future initiative within technology.
  • Responsible for deployment of public cloud IaaS and PaaS to support the bank's cloud native services

 The Person 

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ICT/ Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years progressive experience in Information Technology with at least 3 years’ experience in infrastructure planning or support in an environment with extensive Linux server environment.
  • Certification in RedHat (RHCE/RHCSA) or Kubernetes or Openshift, AWS or Azure Architect/SysOps
  • At least 3 years’ experience with Container/PaaS orchestration/management platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise Linux Server Operating Systems such as RHEL/ CentOS, Ubuntu.
  • Experience with Configuration Management eg Chef, Ansible.
  • Good understanding of build tools, CI/CD, Devops and Agile principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
