Senior Research Associate - Value Chain Specialist

Duties and responsibilities

  •  Support the Inventory of available gender, and socio-economic datasets, data and tools that could facilitate bundling.
  •  Support review of academic literature in the areas of socio-technical bundling.
  •  Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis where necessary.
  •  Write and produce reports, research papers, briefs, executive summaries, study summaries, and blogs for internal tracking, website and external channels.
  •  Organize events such as workshops and seminars.
  •  Demonstrates quantitative analysis skills using statistical software packages like STATA, R, or SPSS.
  •  Write minutes for internal and external meetings.
  •  Competence to collaborate with partners (public and private sectors).
  •  Work experience in the agriculture and/or aquaculture sectors.
  •  Assist in fieldwork in Kenya and other African countries.
  •  Support other gender-related work as needed/requested by the Gender and Social Inclusion Expert in Nairobi.

Requirements

Qualifications

  •  Master’s in gender studies, agricultural economics, anthropology or any social science
  •  Three years of relevant work experience
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills with advanced written and verbal communication in English language and a local dialect in Kenya.
  •  Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environment
  •  Ability to liaise with other project implementing multi-disciplinary teams
  •  Ability to do multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines
  •  Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, but also participate as a team member in the accomplishment of duties.
  •  Strong ability to coordinate, prioritize and organize workload; take initiative and work under pressure.

Research Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  •  Support the provision of statistical guidance and backstopping to an interdisciplinary team of scientists working on food systems through the full research cycle from design, sample size calculations, sampling, analysis to publication and dissemination.
  •  Contribute to the development and use of standard operating procedures for data capture and processing for experiments that are widely applied.
  •  Contribute to developing/validating indicators and indices on food environment associated with food and nutrition security risks factors.
  •  Support in-house capacity building in food systems statistical analysis and the use of statistical packages
  •  Provide statistical knowledge about new methods, tools and approaches as demanded by food environment and consumer behavior research staff.
  •  Participate in relevant activities such as project planning and data analysis meetings.
  •  Provide assistance in presentation of results including visualization of data.
  •  Contribute to research data management and scientific articles publication.
  •  Contribute to the creation of a research quality system that sets up processes, protocols, and policies to maintain and improve the quality of research.
  •  Support in any other related activities as advised by supervisor.

Requirements

Qualification and Experience

  •  PhD or MSc in Social Sciences, i.e. social economics, agricultural economics, or similar field with background in statistical analysis and computing in agriculture and nutrition.
  •  General experience supporting the use of statistical tools and methodologies in research.
  •  Experience in statistical analysis using “R”, “SPSS”, “SAS”, “Stata”, “GenStat”
  •  Knowledge of Database Management systems will be an added advantage
  •  Contribute to creating tools and data collection using mobile and CAPI tools and retrieving data from other databases and systems using API’s and other interoperability protocols
  •  Contribute to cleaning and synthesizing data to guarantee accuracy and fitness of purpose for use in creating food, agriculture, land, and water systems metrics
  •  Support in developing, maintaining, and administering well-documented databases that manage interconnected and multidisciplinary research data using different database technologies, and platforms
  •  Contribute to developing analytics and modeling frameworks using statistical software
  •  development languages, ideally “Python” or “R”, and complementarily Stata
  •  Contribute to the development data visualization applications for displaying and tracking metrics
  •  English Advanced level (oral and written)

Data Analyst & Web Developer

Requirements

  •  A portfolio of similar work completed for the last three years
  •  At least five years of experience as a full-stack developer
  •  Hands-on modern PHP and knowledge of PHP front-end frameworks. Experience with the Laravel PHP Framework will be an added advantage.
  •  Proficient with popular JS application frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, and Bootstrap
  •  Excellent working and demonstrated knowledge of HTML, CSS, Jquery, and experience with responsive design and development
  •  Excellent knowledge of MySQL
  •  Excellent knowledge of developing and consuming data from RESTful Application Programming Interfaces (API’s)
  •  Experience in developing and implementing custom and complex WordPress websites and editing WordPress plugins will be an advantage.
  •  Ability to write secure and clean code and documentation. The use of source code repositories such as Git is required.
  •  Good communication skills
  •  Ability to conduct performance debugging, bench-marking and able to identify resolutions
  •  Experience working with nonprofit organizations

Resource Mobilization Analyst

RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Spearheads efforts to secure the financial and other resources needed for the Alliance to accomplish its mission
  •  Oversee coordination of the project pipeline: synchronize proposal submissions; support proposal development; maintain records of the resource mobilization cycle and lessons learnt
  •  Provided support with administrative matters, and the submission and follow up of all proposals.
  •  Data entry of our pipeline information in our institutional data base (Agresso)
  •  Donor information: maintain donor contacts database
  •  Provide pipeline information for management decision making.
  •  Ensure that policies and procedures are adequately reflected in the project proposals to be submitted.
  •  Work closely with different units within the organization e.g. PMO’s, OPD, GMU, PLANS, IT, P&C, Supervisors, and other users during the proposal development stage.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related fields
  •  Minimum of two (2) years progressively experience in resource mobilization, administration or related field.
  •  Knowledge in fundraising and experience of prospect research.
  •  Proficiency in relevant software programs and office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Desirable: Agresso, Power BI
  •  Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written including the ability to organize and write clear and concise reports; French & Spanish language will be desirable
  •  Demonstrated capacity to work with interdisciplinary teams in a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment.
  •  Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative, and decentralized environment, and operate under tight deadlines.
  •  Excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines while still maintaining attention to detail and accuracy, and problem solve effectively;
  •  Previous experience working for international development and/or research organizations, NGOs or UN agencies is highly desirable;
